You have a hot date in Korea tonight and you could not be more excited! You have spent hours getting ready, doing your hair, makeup, and choosing just the right clothes. But as soon as you step into the living room, your Korean roommate takes one look at you and tells you in Korean, “Take that shirt off…it looks horrible!” Frantic, you ask her what you are supposed to wear instead?! She tells you in Korean, “Here, wear this shirt instead, it looks better with your eyes.” You hurriedly pull the shirt over your head and ask if you look okay now. Your roommate yells at you in Korean, “No! Take off that skirt! Now you don’t match!” Your roommate rushes into her room and returns moments later with another skirt. She tells you hysterically in Korean, “Put this skirt on instead!” As you pull the skirt on, you hear a knock at the door. Out of breath, exhausted, and frenzied, you open the door to greet your date…but hey, your clothes look great!

You finally got your husband out the door to do some shopping in Korea. He HATES shopping. As you browse through a Korean clothing shop, you notice a Korean couple shopping together. You ask your husband why he can’t be more like that loving Korean husband and shop with you. You get the famous “eye-roll” as a response. As you go about your shopping, you overhear the husband ask his wife how a pair of pants looks on him. She replies in Korean, “They look…so-so.” Moments later, he asks how a shirt looks on him. She replies in Korean, “Honey, it looks…so-so, too.” Over the next fifteen minutes, you hear the husband ask the wife how he looks in a jacket, a coat, two hats, and a not-so-flattering pair of leather pants. Every time, she replies in Korean, “You look so-so.” Your husband finally interrupts your people watching and tells you in Korean, “This is why men think shopping is just so-so!”

Okay, you’ll admit it…you have put on a few pounds since you have been in Korea. In fact, you have put on enough weight that you have to find some new clothes in Korea today! You have been shopping all day in Seoul though and it seems you just can’t find what you need. In the first Korean shop, they had very nice clothes…but you had to ask the clerk in Korean, “do you only have men’s clothing here?” In the next Korean shop, you couldn’t find your size (of course), so you asked the clerk in Korean, “do you only sell small clothes here?” The pleasant clerk replied in Korean, “we only sell small children’s clothing here!” In the last Korean shop, you finally had some luck! However…the choices were not very appealing. You had to ask the clerk in Korean, “do you only sell this one in brown, and this in polka dots?” Well, it’s the only one you can find…brown isn’t so bad!

You and your new roommate in Korea are really running low on groceries. In fact, you have been for about a week! You bought groceries the last two times though and you are determined to make sure she does the shopping this time! And you’ve got a plan that might just get her out the door and on her way to the Korean market! As you sit at the breakfast table this morning, you tell her in Korean, “how about a sweet egg sandwich for breakfast!” Hungrily, she agrees that sounds delicious…to which you pretend to forget you don’t have any eggs. How sad! “Oh well,” you tell her in Korean, “how about some fresh, buttery croissants!” Again, she explains in Korean that she is so hungry she could eat anything! Oh, that’s right; you ate all of those last week! So you tell her in Korean, “how about toast, or cereal, or a cracker…” She screams in Korean, “I’m so hungry, how about I go to the store right now!” Now…how about that!
