Being that you are extremely shy, you asked your friends at the Korean university to set you up with the hottest guy at the college (at least in your opinion) and pretend it’s a blind date! In fact, as he walked across the nicest Korean restaurant in town to sit with you, you could not believe this date was actually happening! As you chat over your romantic dinner, he begins to ask more about your family in Korean, “So, what does your Dad do for a living?” Believing things are going rather well, you explain in Korean, “My father works for a large Korean company.” He continues in Korean, “Hmm, what does your mother do?” Becoming quite hopeful, you reply in Korean, “Oh, my mother is a homemaker.” Pressing on, he asks in Korean, “Don’t you have a sister, too?” Finally, getting a little perturbed with all the questions about your sister, you yell in Korean, “Hey! Don’t you want to know anything about me…how about what I do?!”

You thought that was really nice…at least until you arrived! The minute you got there, she started picking out things for herself!! She told you in Korean, “Ooh, buy this shirt!” At first, you thought she was picking things out for you, but she just kept going! Next, she told you in Korean, “Buy this skirt…and buy these shoes!” You know, it might not have been so bad if she had at least pretended they might have looked good on you, but she just repeatedly insisted you buy things in Korean! Finally, you had to put your foot down! Demandingly, you asked in Korean, “Why don’t YOU buy them then?!” Sheepishly, your older sister replied in Korean, “Because my baby sister should buy them for her adorable older sister.” Humph!

Now, here you are standing on the side of a bridge in Korea with nothing more than a very big rubber band strapped to you! You thought bungee jumping looked fun, but it sure looks like a long way down! At least you’re not going alone. You have your best friend in Korea here with you. You tell him in Korean, “You go first, okay?” He looks down, back at you, and tells you in Korean, “No way! It was your idea, you go first!” Feeling a bit argumentative at this point, you argue in Korean, “You’re a man, YOU go first!” Completely unwilling to budge, he offers a deal in Korean, “I don’t want to go first and you don’t want to go first either. How about the next person to speak Korean has to go first!?” Agreeing to the deal in Korean with a nod, you realize this could be a very long afternoon!
