Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is life events. Okay let’s see what we have.
The first word is 태어나다 (taeeonada) “to be born.” So with that word, you can say 저는 서울에서 태어났습니다. (Jeoneun seoureseo taeeonatsseumnida.) which means “I was born in Seoul.” So you can say 저는 (jeoneun) place name 에서 태어났습니다 (taeeonatsseumnida) when you want to talk about where you were born.
Okay next we have 생일 (saengil) which means “birthday.” With that word, you can say 생일선물로 새로운 노트북을 갖고 싶습니다. (Saengilseonmullo saeroun noteubugeul gatgo sipsseumnida.) which means “I want to get a new laptop as a birthday gift.” 생일선물 (saengilseonmul) in Korean is “birthday gift.” Yay!
Okay next we have 취직하다 (chwijikhada) which means “to get a job.” With that word, you can say 대학교를 졸업하기 전에 취직했습니다. (Daehakgyoreul joreopagi jeone chwijikaetsseumnida.) which means “I got a job before I graduated.”
Okay next we have 여행하다 (yeohaenghada) which means “to travel.” Yay! With that word, you can say 내년에 유럽에 여행을 가기 위해서 돈을 모으고 있습니다. (Naenyeone yureobe yeohaengeul gagi wihaeseo doneul moeugo itsseumnida.) which means “I am saving money to travel to Europe next year.”
Next we have 은퇴하다 (untoehada) which means “to retire.” With that word, you can say 저는 은퇴하기 싫습니다. (Jeoneun euntoehagi silsseumnida.) which means “I don’t want to retire.” So I just want to keep doing what I like until the end of the life.
End, okay that’s all for this week. I will see you next week. 다음 시간에 뵙겠습니다. (Daeum sigane boepgetsseumnida.) 안녕히 계세요. (Annyeonghi gyeseyo.)
