Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is health concerns which I have now. Let’s see what we have for this theme.
First word is 통증 (tongjeung) which means “pain.” With that word, you can say 어제 운동을 너무 많이 해서 통증이 왔습니다. (Eoje undongeul neomu mani haeseo tongjeungi watsseumnida.) which means “I started getting pain because I worked out a lot yesterday.”
Okay next we have 두통 (dutong) which means “headache.” So 두 (du) is the Chinese character meaning “head” and 통 (tong) means “ache.” So you will see this word 통 (tong) meaning ache a lot. With that word, you can say 오늘 한국어 공부를 너무 많이 해서 두통이 왔습니다. (Oneul hangugeo gongbureul neomu mani haeseo dutongi watsseumnida.) which means “I am having a headache because I studied Korean a lot today.”
Okay next we have 기침 (gichim) meaning “cough.” When Korean people cough, we just think like it’s making some sounds like 콜록콜록 (kollok-kollok). So with that word, you can say 어젯밤부터 기침을 너무 많이 했습니다. (Eojetbambuteo gichimeul neomu mani haetsseumnida.) which means “I started coughing a lot since last night.” You might want to remember this expression. You use it when you see a doctor in South Korea.
Okay next we have 염증 (yeomjeung) meaning “infection.” With that word, you can say 볼을 깨물어서 염증이 생겼습니다. (Boreul kkaemureoseo yeomjeungi saenggyeotsseumnida.) which means “I bit my cheek, so I got an infection.”
Okay next we have 두드러기가 나다 (dudeureogiga nada) which means “to have a rash.” I have a peanut allergy but I had peanuts. So I started having rash. No, so 땅콩 알레르기가 있는데 땅콩을 먹어서 두드러기가 나기 시작했습니다. (Ttangkong allereugiga inneunde ttangkongeul meogeoseo dudeureogiga nagi sijakaetsseumnida.) which means “I have peanut allergy but I had peanuts, so I started having a rash.”
Okay next we have, end. Okay that’s all for this week. I will see you next week. 다음 시간에 뵙겠습니다. (Daeum sigane boepgetsseumnida.) 안녕히 계세요. (Annyeonghi gyeseyo.)
