Jaehwi: Hi everyone, I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is birds. Okay let’s see what we have for this theme.
First word is 갈매기 (galmaegi) meaning “seagulls.” You can say 서해에 가면 갈매기를 많이 볼 수 있습니다. (Seohaee gamyeon galmaegireul mani bol su itsseumnida.) which means “If you go to the West Sea of Korea, then you can see many seagulls.”
Okay next we have 까마귀 (kkamagwi) which means “crow.” Okay with that word, you can say 한국 사람들은 까마귀를 불운의 상징이라고 생각합니다. (Hanguk saramdeureun kkamagwireul burunui sangjingirago saenggakamnida.) which means “Korean people think about crows as being bad luck.”
닭 (dak) which means “chicken.” With that word, you can say 한국 사람들은 축구경기를 보면서 통닭과 맥주를 마시는 것을 매우 좋아합니다. (Hanguk saramdeureun chukgugyeonggireul bomyeonseo tongdakgwa maekjureul masineun geoseul maeu joahamnida.) which means “Korean people really like having fried chicken and beer while watching soccer games.”
Okay next we have 두루미 (durumi) which means “crane.” With that word, you can say 한국의 옛날 그림에서는 두루미를 자주 볼 수 있습니다. (Hangugui yennal geurimeseoneun durumireul jaju bol su itsseumnida.) which means “In old Korean drawings, you can see cranes often.”
Next we have 오리 (ori) “duck.” With that word, you can say 요즘에 한국에서는 오리고기가 인기입니다. (Yojeume hangugeseoneun origogiga ingiimnida.) which means “In Korea, these days, duck meats are getting popular.”
