Jaehwi: Hi everyone. I am Jaehwi. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. Let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is fruits. Okay I hope it will be a little bit easier than the previous topics about making sentences.
Okay the first word we have is 딸기 (ttalgi) which means “strawberry.”
You can say 옛날에는 딸기를 봄에만 먹을 수 있었습니다. (Yennareneun ttalgireul bomeman meogeul su isseotsseumnida.) which means “In old days, you could eat strawberries only in spring.” But these days you can have it actually any time that you want because we grow strawberries in greenhouses these days.
Okay next we have 사과 (sagwa) which means Apple.
추석에는 사과를 꼭 먹어야 합니다. (Chuseogeneun sagwareul kkok meogeoya hamnida.) which means “You have to eat apples on Thanksgiving Day in Korea.’ because 사과 (sagwa) “apple” is kind of a symbol of harvest. So that’s why people always bring apples on the table for having dinner on Thanksgiving Day.
Okay next we have 살구 (salgu) which means “apricot.”
We can say 한국 사람들은 살구를 주스로 만들어서 자주 먹습니다. (Hanguk saramdeureun salgureul juseuro mandeureoseo jaju meoksseumnida.) which means “Korean people often have apricots in juice.”
포도 (podo) which means “grape.”
With that word, you can say 어떤 사람들은 포도를 껍질채 먹습니다. (Eotteon saramdeureun podoreul kkeopjilchae meoksseumnida.) which means “Some people eat grapes with the skin.”
자두 (jadu) which means “plum.”
You can say 자두 화장품이 인기가 많습니다. (Jadu hwajangpumi ingiga mansseumnida.) which means “Cosmetics made with plums are getting popular.”
Okay next we have... end. Okay that’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed all of the words about fruits in Korea. I will see you next week. 다음 시간에 뵐게요. 안녕히 계세요. (Daeum sigane boelgeyo. Annyeonghi gyeseyo.)
