I have been living and going to school in Korea for about a month now, and yesterday, my professor at the college in Seoul gave us the coolest assignment. Well, at first I thought it was cool…now I am getting very nervous about it. Our Korean professor wants us to hand write letters to our classmates in Korean and then actually mail them! The idea, at least in theory, is both to revive the lost art of written Korean communication and also to help non-native Korean speakers practice speaking Korean. At first, I was very excited about getting to know my Korean college classmates a little better. However, as I thought about it more, how will they feel when they receive my letters, and will they be able to read my Korean? Something tells me though that regardless of how poorly I write in Korean at first, people everywhere feel very special when you take the time to sit down and hand-write them a letter. Maybe I will learn more in this lesson than just how to improve my Korean writing skills!

Learn Korean with KoreanClass101.com! During your visit to Korea, some friends told you to meet them on the other side of the city from where you’re staying. You ask the concierge at your hotel in Korean for the quickest route from your hotel to the restaurant, and he replies in Korean, “I can give you a map, but I can also give you some better advice…don’t drive!” You inquire in Korean, “Why not? I’m good with directions.” The concierge replies in Korean, “It’s not the directions. It’s more the traffic. If you’re not used to it, the traffic will eat you alive. There are so many cars on the road at all hours…you’ll be lucky to escape without an accident.” You ask in Korean, “Well how do you suggest I get from here to there? It’s too far to walk!” The concierge recommends in Korean, “Well, there are several public transportation options…the best one is the subway.”
