죄송합니다 could be used in any polite ways to older person or whoever you would like to say formally!

미안합니다 is fine too :) but it's just that 죄송합니다 is more natural because both 죄송 and 합니다 are both very formal and 미안 is usually used in the intimate language, like 미안해 (between friends) :)</description>
