What’s so great about her anyway? EVERYTHING! Whatever! Everyone’s favorite girl…and your neighbor…misses class today and that’s all you’ve heard about. Your teacher tells you in Korean, “You know your friend missed class today?” Yes, you know…everyone has noticed! She presses further and asks you in Korean, “You know we have a holiday tomorrow, right?” You’re not sure why she is questioning you when it was your friend who missed school! You tell her in Korean, “You know she is weak, she misses school often, and I am sure she will be back on Monday!” Satisfied with your answer, some boys in the back row tell you in Korean, “You know, she sure is beautiful…tell her we miss her.” Frustrated, you yell at them in Korean, “Can’t you see I’m not her messenger? Tell her yourself!” The girls sitting next to you whisper in Korean, “You know she’s just jealous! Can’t she see every boy in Korea loves her?”

You finally got your husband out the door to do some shopping in Korea. He HATES shopping. As you browse through a Korean clothing shop, you notice a Korean couple shopping together. You ask your husband why he can’t be more like that loving Korean husband and shop with you. You get the famous “eye-roll” as a response. As you go about your shopping, you overhear the husband ask his wife how a pair of pants looks on him. She replies in Korean, “They look…so-so.” Moments later, he asks how a shirt looks on him. She replies in Korean, “Honey, it looks…so-so, too.” Over the next fifteen minutes, you hear the husband ask the wife how he looks in a jacket, a coat, two hats, and a not-so-flattering pair of leather pants. Every time, she replies in Korean, “You look so-so.” Your husband finally interrupts your people watching and tells you in Korean, “This is why men think shopping is just so-so!”

Riding bikes in Korea is very liberating and a great way to meet people in Korea. I love to ride my bike in Korea! There are so many beautiful sites to see in Korea and a bike is the perfect way to see them on a warm day. However, last week I was riding my bike through the streets of Korea when I heard the strangest noise! At first, I couldn’t figure out what in the world would make a noise like that…a high-pitched squealing noise! Then I saw her. There was a girl riding her bike through the streets in Korea, loaded down with groceries…and her bike was screaming in agony! After talking to my new friend in Korea, I asked her if she rides her bike in Korea often. Maybe we could meet again and ride bikes together in Korea. I saw her a few days later, but somehow I don’t think she was even riding the same bike!
