Everyone is staring at you as you sit in the boardroom of the Korean company you started working for less than a week ago. Silence fills the air and you could cut the tension with a knife! The boss was looking at you when he asked that last question in Korean…but you have no idea what he said…and now all eyes are on you awaiting a reply. Finally, your ever-so-patient Korean boss asks you in Korean if you understood the question. You are able to understand him this time. Your Korean is not very good, but you are picking up some phrases that people repeat to you often. You turn to the group, nervous and embarrassed, and explain in Korean that you are still learning to speak Korean. He asks in Korean, “why didn’t you say so?” Everyone starts laughing as the boss repeat what he has said in your language. Then he asks in Korean, “why didn’t you tell me? I have just the thing to help!” As he repeats what he has said to you again where you can understand him, he slides something across the table to you. As you read the paper, you look at him and repeat to him in the best Korean you can manage, “KoreanClass101.com huh? Why didn’t I think of that?” The boardroom erupts into laughter! You will do fine here with a little help from us!

Can you make a sentence with -아/어/여지 그랬어?
Example:
현우한테 전화하지 그랬어?
(Why didn’t you call Hyunwoo?)

Me too. Like this lesson a lot!
제가 한상 이렇게 말하는데….. :p
오래전에 우리에게 이표현을 가르치지 그랬어요!
(By the way, on the lesson intro page under “grammar”, this structure is listed as: “아/어/여 지 그랬어 .
I was wondering if I have to conjugate the verb before adding the 그랬어 verb ending or is this a Verb Stem +그랬어?) Thanks!

고맙습니다 ^^
“오빠 사과들이 사지 그랬어”
-> “오빠 사과를 사지 그랬어”
In Korean, you don’t always have to use “들” even when you’re talking about plural objects. ^^

고마워요!! ㅎㅎ
“오래 전에 우리에게 이 표현을 가르치지 그랬어요” is correct, but more naturally I would say “이 표현을 더 일찍 가르쳐 주지 그랬어요.”
And for the grammar part, you have to conjugate the verb before you add -지 그랬어 ^^

“거짓말 하지말지 그랬어.”
“나한테 그렇게 잘 해주지말지 그랬어.”

그런데… 어른들한테 이렇게 말하면 실례가 아니에요?
For example, if your boss tells you to give a presentation at the last minute, wouldn’t it be a little rude to say, “좀 더 일찍 말씀해주시지 그렇셨어요.” (?)
