개인적인은 4가지 종류 중, 재일 맛있어 보이는 것은 만두인데, 초(醋)와 함께 먹으면 더 맛있겠어요.

근네, 맛있어 보이겠다고 써도 돼요?

Max: Hi.
Korean: Hi.
맥스: 한국 사람 버여요.

And conversation flows from there.

사람들 나한테 “어려 보여!”라고 많이 해요. 한국사람도 이렇게 생각해요…

좋은 것 같아, 나쁜 것 같은지 잘 모르겠어요…

난 26살인데…

(please correct my errors)

Claudia,

사람들 나한테
> 사람들이 나한테

한국사람도 이렇게 생각해요…
> 한국사람들도 이렇게 생각해요.
> 한국사람들 마저도 이렇게 생각해요. (Even Koreans think like this)

좋은 것 같아, 나쁜 것 같은지 잘 모르겠어요…
> 좋은 것 같은지 나쁜 것 같은지 잘 모르겠어요.
> 좋은 건지 나쁜 건지 잘 모르겠어요.

Hello everyone!
This comment might not be directly related to the content of this lesson, but I just wanted to say that your podcasts are great!!!
I’m learning Korean at the university but it seems like I’m learning much more out of those podcasts (still at beginner lesson though) !!
I’m wondering if there’s any explanation…
Keep on the amazing job!!!

안녕하세요!

김치는 맛있어 보여요…

문제 있어요…what is the difference between 보여요 and 것 아…

김치는 맛있어 보여요 and 김치는 맛있어 것같아요…are the sentences correct? thanks!

avatar
Woori says:

wow

im korean and was googling
and by accident, i found this website where foreigners are learning korean! haha

Shena, the difference between

1) 김치는 맛있어 보여요 and
2) 김치는 맛있는 것 같아요 is simple ;)

1) 김치 looks delicious
2) 김치 is kind of delicious :P

~ 는 것 같아요 is a casual oral expression.
it can be understood as ‘kind of’ or ‘like’.

Thanks for stopping by and answering the question!! :)
감사합니다. 시간 나시면 앞으로 종종 들러 주세요 ^^

says:

in the grammar we have : Noun + 같아 + 보이다

what is 같아 in this instance?

I am sure it’s been covered somewhere, I did a search on the forums but didn’t find anything.

avatar
선현우 says:

:)

Here,

같아 is from 같다

같다 –> 같 + 아 보이다

같다 means ‘to be like’

as you know, 보이다 means “to be seen” or “to seem” so

~ 같아 보이다 becomes “to look like” :)

avatar
says:

I was just coming back to say I found it in 처럼’s grammar point, but thx Hyunwoo for being so fast!

avatar
선현우 says:

:)

You’re very welcome!!! ^^ any time!!
언제든지 물어보세요!!!

avatar
robert says:

I was wondering… about “looking like a noun” like 학생 같아 보이다 … we can get a similar meaning using the particle 처럼, right? or is 처럼 used in different context/way?

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

robert,

Good question. 좋은 질문이에요!

Look like + noun = ~같아 보이다

처럼 is also ‘like’ something, but it’s not used with the verb ‘to look’ :) it’s used with other verbs, though.

For example, 어린아이처럼 말하다 = to talk like a little child

학생처럼 옷을 입다 = to dress like a student :)

avatar
choiyounghak says:

I need help… How do I know where to put 아/어/여 ? i’ve totally forgot D:

avatar
Jesse Harshbarger says:

By the way, can’t you say “처럼” with the verb “to look.”; 바보처럼 보이다 (the meaning being the same as “같아”)?

avatar
Jesse Harshbarger says:

… also, to elaborate; ~는 것 같아요 can mean “to think” so with, “김치는 맛있는 것 같아요” you are saying, “I think kimchi is delicious.”

맞아?

avatar
Jesse Harshbarger says:

isn’t there also ㄹ/을 같다 to show future tense?
가방을 살 것 같아요 “I think I will buy the bag.”

avatar
Koreanclass101.com says:

 Hi Jess,

That’s right. But here is the difference : )

같다 literally means ‘it looks like’. Korean people use the verb and combine it with other verbs to be more polite and indirect although they are sure something.

If you take out the verb 같다, you can see

가방을 살 것 같아요 -> 가방을 살 것 입니다.
김치는 맛있는 것 같아요 -> 김치는 맛있습니다.

The verb 같다 doesn’t make some sentences become future tense or present tense. You should check the core-verb like 살 것입니다 or 맛있습니다 to see if that’s future tense or not.

That’s why 가방을 살 것 같아요 is the future tense while 가방을 산 것 같아요 is the present tense.

And 김치는 맛있는 것 같아요 means ‘I think Kimchi is delicious’ as you said : )

Also You can replace 같이 with 처럼. Both means the same and replaceable anytime.

I hope this helps.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thank you.
