Did you ever walk down the street and saw someone you didn’t want to see? You duck your head, look away, and walk as fast as possible. You see that person the next day, and you’re confronted! What do you do? Well, we won’t be able to offer advice on what you should do, but we will go over a few things you can say! As you learn Korean, learn how to say “pretend” in Korean!

여러분은 무슨 “척”을 한 적이 있어요? ^^
(What kind of ‘pretending’ have you done before?)
i’m not sure if the sentence is correct, but anyways here it is:
저는 항강 공부하는 척해요.
Oooops i wrote the word 항상 wrong ^^, don’t know what else is wrong now ^^
저는 항상 공부하는 척해요.
한국에서 지하철을 탔을 때 한국말을 못 알아듣는 척했어요. 때때로 버스에 있는 사람의 한국말로 이야기했던 말을 알아들을 수 있었는데 전반적으로 전혀 이해하지 못 했어요.

ㅎㅎ Your 두번째 sentence was correct
ㅎㅎ
가끔씩은 진짜로 공부하지? ㅎㅎㅎ
Daniel
^^ ㅎㅎ
일부러 ‘못 알아듣는 척’을 할 필요가 있었어요? ^^
한국 사람들은, generally, still a lot of Korean people think that most foreigners don’t speak Korean at all - 외국인이면 대부분 한국어 못 할 거라고 생각하는데, but in fact there are a lot of people like yourself who understand quite a lot! ㅎ
I understand how to construct the phrase “pretend to do something something…” but what about “pretend to be [a noun]. For example…
How do you say “I didn’t want him to know it was me, so I pretended to be someone else.” [다른 사람의 적 했다??]
or [다른 사람이란 적 했다??]
OR
In this play, the actors pretend to be animals… [배우들이 동물이란 적 한다…]
this doesn’t sound right to me…
Marcus
좋은 질문이에요! And saying “to pretend to be + a noun” is basically the same, but using the verb “이다”
So “to pretend to be 사람” is
사람이다 + ㄴ 척 하다 = 사람인 척 하다
So “I pretended to be someone else” is 다른 사람인 척 했다.
And “the actors pretend to be animals” is 배우들이 동물인 척 한다
^_^ Hope this helps! Remember to use the verb “이다”
저는 한 번 자와섬에서 온 사람인 척 했더니 International student union office에서 자와어 사투리로도 썼는데 그 사무실에서 온 무료한 가방 받았어요!

헤헤… 인도네시아어를 너무 똑같이 잘 하셔서 그런 것 같아요 ㅎㅎㅎ 저는 어느 나라 말로 말을 해도 한국 사람인 것을 사람들이 금방 알아요. In whatever language I speak, people know I’m from Korea. Haha.
구봉이 ![]()
하하하하하하… 그것은 구봉이 씨의 본성이 들어났다는 이야기인가요? ㅎㅎㅎ
