I happen to use 하나은행 :) and it’s really convenient because almost every 7-eleven convenience store (which is everywhere in Seoul) has a 하나은행 ATM machine :)

Does the korean ATM only give 10,000 won bills (just like how U.S. ATMs only give out $20 bills). Or can you get a 100,000 수표? And isn’t there a slot where you can actually put in your bank book?

avatar Marcus says:

I remember when I went to Korea (a long time ago), I exchanged three or four $100 bills at the airport and the teller gave me all 10,000 won bills. Man, was my wallet thick! And part of it stuck out since my wallet was made to hold American money…

avatar Manyakumi says:

You can get a 100,000 수표 from ATM which are in your account bank only.
And there is a slot for bank book on the machines in a bank.

Marcus :)

Nowadays in Korea, they’ve made the 1 000 and 10 000 Won bills smaller, though the bigger ones are still in circulation and are valid tender. I didn’t like when I was given or withdrew one of the large 10 000 Won bills, because, as you said, they don’t fit properly in North American wallets!

현우 :)

I used 하나은행 as well, but I noticed there weren’t as many 하나 ATM’s as other banks when I was out and about… If I get to choose the next Korean bank to do business with, it might be KB. They seem to have ATM’s everywhere!

Thanks for the lesson, KClass Team, and also re-acquainting me with the type of ATM I used in Korea. It took me back, oh, about a month!
