Do you need an excuse to get out of work or school? In this lesson we’ll be going over reasons again, so you can use them to get out of work, skip school, or to simply give an explanation! Our lost student is late to the graduation ceremony and he’s given a explanation using 니까 (nikka), which is used to give reasons. Learn about the different nuance with this Korean grammatical structure! Remember to learn Korean as you listen to KoreanClass101.com. And after listening, don’t forget to stop by KoreanClass101.com and leave us a post!

여러분… KoreanClass101.com에서 한국어 공부하니까 재밌죠?
(Everyone… Because you study Korean at KoreanClass101.com, it’s fun right?)
Um… 재미있어서 한구어 공부해요.
I’m trying to say I study Korean because it’s fun/interesting/whatever. It’s probably not correct, because writing Korean when I’m sleepy isn’t a good idea. ^ ^
Chriss
What you wrote is correct except there’s a ㄱ missing in the word for “Korean”
![]()
(’한국어’에서 ㄱ이 빠진 것 빼고는 맞아요!)
ㅎㅎ 화이팅!
And I also want to say that this 3-part series has been extremely helpful and useful! 고맙습니다!
Thank Shan! We have more 3-part series… focusing on similar grammar and explaining the different nuances! I hope you enjoy those as well
Margaret 씨… 화이팅! 매일 공부하세요!
That was the first time I’ve heard the explanation of (으) 니까 where it carries the meaning “I know, and you know, so…” I’ll ask my Korean friends about that.
The way I understood (으) 니까 is that it puts a stronger emphasis on the reason. It is a more direct way of giving a reason than using 어/아/여서. So using 어/아/여서 can be a milder way of giving a reason.
How is my understanding?
Edvenchers,
yeah
Your understanding is fairly accurate. If you say (으)니까, it’s stronger than 아/어/여서 because (in most cases) you’re assuming that everybody that’s involved in the conversation knows about or agrees upon the reason or the consequence ^^
