You have been trying to think of a way to strike up a conversation with new people in Korea…make some new friends, but you are very shy. Today is such a beautiful summer day in Korea…it sure would be nice to have some new Korean friends to chat with in Korean! Instead, you sit down at an outdoor Korean café, order a coffee, and take a huge drink, not thinking about how hot it might be! Seconds later, as it scalds your tongue, you look around you for help and beg the table of young people next to you in Korean, “please, help! It’s hot!” Laughing they jump to your aid and hand you their ice cream. You shove mounds into your mouth to soothe your ailing tongue…screaming moments later in Korean, “It’s too cold!” Well, you have broken the ice with some new Korean friends, so to speak!

Learning Korean with KoreanClass101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Korean! I studied Chinese in a university where half of the students were 한국사람. Every time we’d go out, you’d hear lots of people muttering 추워, 추워… there were that many Koreans and they said it that many times that I think the whole campus knew what 추워 meant after a while.

더울 때, 어떻게… it’s getting a little 더워 now!

I’m trying to express “drooling at the mouth” in hangul emoticons - how do you really do it?)

Sounds like “Otter Pops”!

i go play at the playground!!!

it’s either you sweat alot or you don’t sweat at all! haha.

Again

Ed :)

I don’t know how to make a ‘drooling at the mouth’ face in emoticon either. hahaha. it sounds difficult!

Theresa :)

I agree!!!!
^^ But I never eat anything spicy when it’s hot… haha.

사실, all day long은 :) “하루 종일”이에요.

Watermelon sounds soo good. I can easily buy some watermelon here too but I haven’t had it in such a long while… Maybe I’ll go buy one one of these days.

We have lots of cold desserts over here too! “Ice kacang” is a favourite here: a mountain of shaved ice over a bed of red beans, corn and fruits.. :)

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

Oh :) Shan, I see! That’s what you call it in Singapore. “Ic kacang” - in Korea we call it 팥빙수 (pat bing su) :)

팥 = red bean
빙 = ice
수 = water

Hehe. I LOVE ice kacang too :)

We call it 과일빙수 if there’s fruit on it. :)

현우  Thank you for correcting my mistakes

Margaret,

(the more mistakes you make, the faster you improve)

There’s a Filipino version of 밭빙수/ice kacang - it’s called “halo-halo”.

The special version not only has ice, fruits, beans, evaporated milk, and young roasted rice, it also has purple yam jam (called “haleyang ube”), egg custard (”leche flan), and even a scoop of ice cream on top!

avatar
emily (holdfast) says:

i saw them make halo-halo on top chef

avatar
theresa says:

eek. i don’t like ice kachang. because of the milk thing. haha.

shan,

i’ll take the cheng tng please. haha.

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

I’d love to try all different versions of ice kacang in every country :D

(I think they will be a little bit different from each other although they are similar).

Shena says:

I love halo-halo during summer…try it everyone! ^^ you’ll love it!

Angie says:

PLease help:

What is evaporated milk (conensed milk) in Korean? Also if you could give the hangeul it would help. Anyone please! I need to make candy for my students!

avatar
선현우 says:

Angie :)

I hope this answer isn’t too late ! “Evaporated milk” in Korean is “연유” or “무가당 연유” ^^

avatar
스카트 says:
