For example, would "Can you eat today?" be "오늘 먹 수 있어요?", "오늘 먹 수 있어요?" or some other construction? Is “할 수 있다” only appropriate with 하다 verbs? (Good question!) :cool::cool::cool: First of all, 당연하지 is in the intimate politeness level so it should be 당연하지요 or (in short) 당연하죠 to be compared with 물론이에요. :) So it's 당연하지 vs 물론이지 (or 물론이야) and 당연하죠 vs 물론이죠 (or 물론이에요) The bottom line is, they are almost the same thing. It's like the difference between "of course" and "sure" in English. :) But if you go deeper into the words, 당연하다 means something has to be that way, and 물론 means there's no room for argument about it. I use 당연하지/당연하죠 more often in everyday conversations, and 물론/물론이죠/물론입니다 more often in writing or formal situations, but they are basically interchangeable in most cases. I hope this helps! 도움이 되길 바래요!
칠문 --> 질문
Margaret,

First of all, 당연하지 is in the intimate politeness level so it should be 당연하지요 or (in short) 당연하죠 to be compared with 물론이에요. :)

So it’s 당연하지 vs 물론이지 (or 물론이야)

and

당연하죠 vs 물론이죠 (or 물론이에요)

The bottom line is, they are almost the same thing. It’s like the difference between “of course” and “sure” in English. :) But if you go deeper into the words, 당연하다 means something has to be that way, and 물론 means there’s no room for argument about it.

Jacqueline :) Very good observation! 당연하지 / 당연하죠 / 당근이지 mean 'Of course' and 그럼요 also means 'Of course' but it literally means "if not, what?" so it becomes "of course." - 그럼요 comes from "그러면요?" So for example, when someone says "이거 좋아? (is this good?)" and you say 그럼요!, it literally means "It's good! If it's not good, what would it be like otherwise?" :) Of course people don't think as far as "what would it be like otherwise?" so it just has the meaning of "of course" :) I hope this helps! ㅎㅎ ㅎㅎ Max, 당연하죠!!!!!!
