Both 춥기 때문에 and 추웠기 때문에 are fine and the reason that 춥기 can work too is because if you say 춥기, ‘춥기 때문에’ kind of works like a gerund, like in English, where the form of -ing or to +verb wouldn’t really change along with the tense of the entire sentence - so you can say 추웠기 때문에 to give the clause an independent sense of tense, or say 춥기 때문에 to give the clause a sense of a set phrase or an adverb

in the dialogue it appears:
어제는 춥기 때문에 못 갔어요

I noticed that there’s no past infix in 춥기. Is it because it is inferred from the 어제 that makes it past?

Would be also ok if instead of 춥기, I use 추웠기?

I never really used: 감기 걸려서 못 갔어요. much… I always used things like… 비가 왔기때문에 못 갔어요.

비가 때문에 is not acceptable

비 때문에 is good, though. hehe.

-기 때문에 is ‘because’

and Noun + 때문에 is ‘because of’

How about if I say “비가 때문에…” (because of the rain), is that acceptable too?

비가 오려하기 때문에 학교에 안 갈 것이다.
Because it will rain, I am not going to school. (Future-Future)

비가 올 것 같아서 학교에 안 갈 것이다. (Future-Future)
Because it seems to rain, I am not going to school.

비가 오기 때문에 학교에 안 갈 것이다.
Because it rains, I am not going to school. (Present-Future)

They are all okay.

The difference between -기 때문에 and 때문에 are similar to the difference between the English expressions “because” and “because of”

Verb + -기 때문에 = because + S + V
Noun + 때문에 = because of Noun

공부 때문에 means “because of his studies”

And ‘because he studies’ would be 공부하기 때문에, using the verb ‘공부하다’ instead of the noun ‘공부’ and using -기 때문에 in there

I never needed an excuse for not going to school, my mom is a doctor, she never wanted to believe me anyway ! I was always going ! Once I got to university, I never had to explain myself. I arrived late once at a lab, with puffy eyes and a smell of alcohol… I didn’t need an excuse either, the technician was pissed off and knew right away why I didn’t come on time !

By the way, I have a question concerning ‘because’.
In this lesson, you say that it’s 기 때문에 but in the lower int. lesson 3, it’s only 때문에.
ex : 요즘에 성주가 공부 때문에 스트레스를 많이 받아요.

The layperson just says bruise, but my father-in-law, who’s a doctor, always says hematoma!!

It can be caused by falls, sports injuries, car accidents, or blows received by other people or objects.

Bruises and black eyes are a form of hematoma.

Less serious types include subungual hematoma (under a fingernail or toenail).

Hematomas are especially serious when they occur inside the skull.

I had an Hematoma on a toe nail recently, I don’t know how i got it cuz i didn’t feel any pain at all before or after.But the color lasted almost 2 month!!!
Finally it disappeared haha.
