one of my (private tutoring) students once told me he couldn’t come because he might (sic!) have a haematoma on his toe (sic!)…yeah,sure…he knew perfectly well that he was supposed to take a test during that lesson…

But hematoma in Korean sounds sooooo professional that I might give the student an A+ for his/her effort in using that word if he/she said that in Korean ^^
(=한국어로 ‘혈종’이라고 하면 너무 전문적으로 들려서, 만약에 그 학생이 한국어로 그 말을 했다면 노력이 가상해서 A+ 줄 것 같아요 ㅎㅎ)

I had an Hematoma on a toe nail recently, I don’t know how i got it cuz i didn’t feel any pain at all before or after.But the color lasted almost 2 month!!!
Finally it disappeared haha.

Bruises and black eyes are a form of hematoma.

I never needed an excuse for not going to school, my mom is a doctor, she never wanted to believe me anyway ! I was always going ! Once I got to university, I never had to explain myself. I arrived late once at a lab, with puffy eyes and a smell of alcohol… I didn’t need an excuse either, the technician was pissed off and knew right away why I didn’t come on time !

By the way, I have a question concerning ‘because’.
In this lesson, you say that it’s 기 때문에 but in the lower int. lesson 3, it’s only 때문에.
ex : 요즘에 성주가 공부 때문에 스트레스를 많이 받아요.

I am 3rd generation Korean — actually half Korean, half Japanese but both my parents can only speak english. I hope someday I’ll be able to understand and speak fluent Korean & Japanese!

Can 기 때문에 be used with future tense too? e.g. Because it will rain (or is going to rain), I am not going to school.

I think my favorite reason for not going to school is the one my Korean teacher used and told us to memorize:
감기 걸러서 못 갔어요.
한국어를 가르쳐 주셔서 감사합니다! (All the Korean I just wrote is probably wrong but I hope you will be able to understand the point. . . Thank You so much!)

in the dialogue it appears:
어제는 춥기 때문에 못 갔어요

I noticed that there’s no past infix in 춥기. Is it because it is inferred from the 어제 that makes it past?

Would be also ok if instead of 춥기, I use 추웠기?

올해 한국학 수업이 있기 때문에 한공 우주 공학 수업에 못 가요. 그러나 화란에 대학 수업에 다녀야 안 돼요. It’s like you can come if you want but nobody cares and you can just take the exams if you don’t show.

In high school I always went to every class. Except once I skipped gymnastic class and then the teacher called my home . Oh and in primary school I also left once halfway during the day and then the teacher called my mom

OK, so 때문에 can be used without the 기? How do you know when to use the 기 and when not to? Does the 기 still just act to make a verb a noun?

So… can you use 때문에 after a verb?

I try a very complicate sentence (I’m pretty sure it will be a lot of mistakes but I try):

만이 프랑스사람은 자동차를 가지기 때문에 만이 이교통사고 있어요
(because a lot of French have cars, there is a lot of car accidents).

i have done some of the grammar exercises but found that the questions were not complete. For example some of them read ‘please fill in the blanks with the correct word’ but there were no blanks.
Did anyone notice this?
