You have been shopping all day all over Korea. You haven’t even stopped to eat once! Now you are starving though and you have stopped in the first Korean restaurant you can find! Your Korean waiter does not speak English…and your Korean is very limited. You manage to struggle through ordering your food as fast as possible between hand motions and a few Korean words you learned before you left home. Moments later, your adorable Korean waiter brings your food to the table and sets it in front of you. Smiling, he says, “be careful, it’s hot,” to you in Korean. You have absolutely no idea what your waiter just told you in Korean…for the time being, but you are so hungry, you just smile back and dive into your Korean food! Seconds later though, you believe you just learned a new phrase in Korean that you will not soon forget!

카레는 맛있어요.
korean curry is good. when I go to korean 식당 I would sometimes eat korean curry.
하지만, 나는 보통 두부찌개가 명령해요.

I know how dangerous Korean is! It’s addictive. Everything about Korea is addictive. The dramas are addictive. The food is addictive. KoreanClass101.com is addictive. I can’t stop!

I LOVE 카레!
whenever I can’t decide what to eat, I order either 순두부 or 카레
Wednesday at 12:53 am
Haha
Bouks, thanks for including KoreanClass101 in there!!

And for your reference, ‘addictive’ in Korean is ‘중독성이 있다’
한국어는 중독성이 있어요 = Korean is addictive
(중독성 literally means ‘the tendancy to make people addicted’)

하하하…If I go to Korea, I think I can become a specialist in mental disorders and complexes — first I learned about 공주병, now I know 중독성이

제임스씨,
안녕하세요! 당신이 5월 20일 에 쓴 comment가 조금 틀려요
The comment that you wrote on the 20th of may is a little incorrect
식당에서는 음식을 원하면 “명령” 말고 “주문해요” 이란 써야 돼요.
At a restaurant you don’t “order..as in command 명령하다 ” but the other order 주문하다
a lttle confusing! 화이팅!

thanx for the heads up Michel.

현우 - 고마워~~!^^
여러분 .. 제 새 블로그를 많이 사랑해주세요!
Bouks, 예! koreanclass101 is addictive. i keep coming back!
singapore has many types of curry. but most of our curry contains coconut milk which i don’t think korean curry contains, am i right? i haven’t eaten korean curry.
i always order soondubu at a korean restaurant. my friends never have to ask me what i want to eat cuz they’d order soondubu for me. haha.
Wednesday at 10:49 am
Yup Korean curry is actually kind of sweet, like Minkyong mentioned. And I’m sure there are people like Seol out there that think all curry is the same as Korean curry!
And I agree with everyone… 순두부찌개 is my favorite!
Addiction can only help our community

I completely agree that 한국어는 중독성이 있어요 !
I think i’ll have to go to rehab soon!

인도 카레는 한국 카레보다 한없이 더 맛있거든요!
현우야.. 다움번에 맛있는 인도 카레 집 소게해 줄게^^ 찐자 맛있다! 사실은 그 집의 커레 맛이봤으니까 한국 카레 먹을 때는 항상 실망해…
Wednesday at 12:33 pm
Jacqueline…noooo, no rehab! We never want to get over Korea and Korean things, do we? Don’t put me through treatment, I’m just fine, I can quit anytime I like

theresa,
맞아요, 한국사람들은 코코넛 밀크를 별로 좋아하지 않는 것 같아요.
저는 음식을 가리지 않아서 코코넛 밀크가 들어간 음식도 잘 먹지만,
많은 한국인들이 그런 음식을 ‘느끼하다’고 생각해서 잘 안먹어요.
Austin,

Wednesday at 3:56 pm
Austin,

hay….
I hate it when many people type purely hangeul in newbie lessons???

do u think that newbie’s could even read and understand them…??
and why are they in newbie???they shouldn’t be here….
haaaay….I”m feeling so disappointed now…
they don’t even put translation of it…
I’m going crazy with all of the long comments in pure hangeul…
I try to read it as much as I can but I can only pronounce it but couldn’t understand……Do you know how frustrating it is for a newbie??
Perhaps, you didn’t know that….
Don’t worry, I’ll be as good as that someday….
And I will understand all of them….
Friday at 1:28 pm
삼귭살 조하야요….is that correct? this is my third day studying korean…ㅋㅋㅋ…
Thursday at 10:23 am
I’ve never had korean curry, but I agree with seol, i’ve had Indian curry, and it’s very distinctive from other countries’ versions, but i think a lot of that has to do with the specific spices/seasonings.
i’m planning a trip to the coast this summer, (vancouver, canada) and i’m going to try 카레 at a korean restaurant then
Boblyn, don’t feel bad about all the korean comments, they’ll make more sense as time goes by. I can’t read most of them, but i practice reviewing the hangul alphabet on the site here, and review all the words in my word bank from all the lessons i’ve done so far, and it’s really helping me to read hangul more. I have a lonnnnng way to go before i can understand a lot, but i can pick up so many more words than i used to when i watch kdramas and films.
Think of the posts here as practice boards, we’re all at different levels, and the more we try to read, the better we get
Like they say in korea… aja aja fighting!

CanadianSeoul - Vancouver is the best place for Indian curry, ESPECIALLY. go to jolly’s or nirvana. awesome.
Ivy - 삼겹살 좋아해요 (좋아하다). try starting with the pronunciation series and introduction lessons. those are best as starters.
