Bienvenue MinKyung !!!

I still think Black Day sounds depressing… And not because of the colour ! I’d rather have an Anti-Valentine party on feb 14…

But I’m dying to try jajangmyeon nonetheless

avatar
Bouks says:

Welcome, Minkyung! Please tell us about yourself, don’t be shy.

So, what days do us married people get? Why do the single people get to have all the fun…

rigo says:

hello guys and welcome MinKyung , yes would like to know
a little about yourself

it’s been a long while since I had 짜장면. I guess i’ll get me some this week.

i would like to try the korean jajangmyeon. my friends told me it’s nice.

petiteclaire,

Anti-Valentine party is a nice idea!! hehe. But what will be the party like? :-)

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

Bouks,

Haha. I guess they thought married people wouldn’t pay too much attention to whatever’s going on with the ’special days’ (아마 결혼한 사람들은 이런 ‘특별한 날’들에 별로 신경을 안 쓸 거라고 생각했나 봐요. ^^)

We can make one!

Any good ideas?

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

avatar
alicetowa says:

avatar
_petiteclaire_ says:

Anti-Valentine parties are mostly girls, and include ice-cream, lots of alcohol and macarons (traditional french almond cookies)

Bouks, in France married couple also celebrate Valentine’s Day. It’s a great money-making day for babysitters …

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

alicetowa,

It’s the first time I’ve ever heard of that! Sounds like fun! Haha. :-)

_petiteclaire_ Thank you for welcoming me! I had to admit Black Day does sound very depressing. But you get to have fun with your single friends~!

Bouks Thank you for your warm welcome~! And I guess married couples can also enjoy some Jajangmyeon together~!That sounds much more romantic than Black Day.

Actually 중국요리 does have “자장면”, it’s called “炸酱面” (zhajiangmian), or literally “fried sauce noodles”. Supposedly, the traditional Beijing ZhaJiangMian is cooked with wide hand-tossed noodles, soybean paste, radish pieces, cucumber pieces, cabbage pieces and other vegetables. You would then personally mix the ingredients together to eat. The sauce is sort of brownish. It’s yummy!

But I would love to try the Korean 자장면. Did anyone watch “Coffee Prince”? Still remember that scene where 은찬 gobbled down 5 bowls of 자장면, it was kinda disgusting!

avatar
Bouks says:

I only watched a few episodes of Coffee Prince - and I happened to catch that one. It was fascinating and disgusting at the same time  Not a good style of eating with friends on Black Day, I think. But if anyone attempts to recreate this stunt, please be sure to post the video

Actually, my husband and I spend long periods of time apart (unfortunately), so I should start a new day for people apart from their spouses. Shall I call it Grey Day? Hmm, I wonder what food would be appropriate then…ugh, maybe I should name it after some other color

avatar
Daniel K says:

I’m going to try starting a new tradition at my English academy on Monday/Black Day: Dark Chocolate Hershey Kisses! I’d wager they’d be more popular than 짜장면-flavoured candy (if such a thing even exists), and easier to give out than bowls of 짜장면.

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

Shan, :-)
yeah I like the Chinese 炸酱面 too :-) I’ve only had it once to compare it with the Korean version of 자장면 when I was in China, and it was really good too!! Are you living in China now? Where in China do you live ? Can you find any Korean restaurants near your place?

Bouks, :-)
I think we need a Letter Day :-) How does that sound? hehe. You gotta write or give letters on that day - wouldn’t it be nice ?

Daniel :-)
That’s a good idea! :) Black chocolate, black rice drink, or anything other than 자장면 :-) would be very interesting!

Jacqueline (쟈클린) says:

avatar
Jacqueline (쟈클린) says:

365 days won’t be enough ㅋㅋㅋ. Korea will need around 1 million days more if they continue like this ㅋㅋㅋ… orange juice day,?!

A day for each drink, fruit,vegetable, color, metal,things etc…

Is there a Pizza Day in korea? ㅋㅋㅋif not, let’s start one!

avatar
Bouks says:

Don’t forget to eat black licorice and black jellybeans, Daniel

Hyunwoo: I think every day should be Letter Day! I like writing. Too bad I write better than I speak. Maybe I should just walk around with a notebook everywhere

avatar
Bouks says:

Jacqueline, I second the Pizza Day proposal!

avatar
Shan says:

Korean restaurants are not so common. However, recently a lot of Korean food stalls have sprung up in foodcourts in our shopping malls, though I doubt they serve authentic Korean food. Just the other day, I ordered 육개장 from one of these stalls… I haven’t tasted the real thing so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it certainly wouldn’t be like what I ate! It tasted like chilli water - spicy but tasteless!

avatar
Keith says:

(I haven’t been there, but I heard it’s really cool!)

And I know what it’s like to have bad Korean food… my University had “Korean Express” fastfood style Korean food. It was bad….. but it was kind of good at the same time? It was weird… haha!

avatar
Jeff (Javis) says:

Boo… The only places I could find that serve 짜장면 in the area require a car to get to, so I celebrated (mourned?) being single in my own way  .

avatar
Shan says:

I think there are more and more Koreans coming to Singapore the past few years. There are even some who bring their children to attend our schools here, because they want their kids to be trilingual (english+chinese+korean)!! I think it’s tough on the poor kids, but then again, Korean students are probably used to mugging and competing with millions back in their own country, so maybe they don’t find it tough here???

You won’t believe it, 오늘, 우리신문 actually had a small article on Black Day!! There was a picture of a man eating 자장면 in a competition hahaha!!

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

Jeff,
too bad that the 짜장면 place is far away from your place. And somehow, I’ve never tried making 짜장면 in my own house other than just making the instant 짜장면 noodles - but they are different. 짜장면 is so difficult to make! hehe.

Shan,
oh, really? 짜장면 먹기 대회(eating competition) sounds very tough … it’s a lot! hehe.

And yes, I agree that there’s too much competition going on even for the little kids … T.T 아이들은 놀아야 되는데…. kids should just have fun… :(

avatar
민경(Min Kyong) says:

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

What date would be good for PIzza Day? :-)

avatar
Bouks says:

My family used to make and eat delicious homemade pizza every Friday night. (Fresh basil on it - yeah!) We fell out of that habit a while back - what a shame. Maybe every Friday should be 피 자 데 이

But…how will I get the pizza to reach you all?

avatar
선현우(Hyunwoo Sun) says:

Bouks, that sounds really nice!! hehe.

Just wait till I make a 순간 이동 machine :-)

[…] White Day should be a fun day and it’s one of the more noticeable 14th holidays (as opposed to Kiss Day - nope, I didn’t make that one up). This day is also quite predictably a couple day much like Christmas in Korea. But for those of you who get shucked on March 14th, hold your innermost emo-ness for 30 more days to celebrate how miserable you really are that you’re not alone on Black day with other dateless bums single friends.
