Tali,
Thursday at 11:15 am

Woo hoo! Happy New Year! Happy Spring Festival*! From now on we won’t call it Chinese New Year, but Chinese Korean New Year!!
Sorry for all the exclamation marks, I’m just deaf from all the fireworks going on around me! I’m wading through piles of exploded fireworks and all my clothes smell like exploded gunpowder.
Must be new year again!
*what we call Chinese Korean New Year here in China
Thursday at 8:09 pm
One interesting thing I noticed, though… On Dec. 31/Jan. 1, I got a ton of text messages (both personal and “bulk”) from Korean friends, acquaintances, and co-workers wishing me a Happy New Year. On Seollal, though, I got almost none. I heard that Seollal is bigger than Jan. 1 in Korea, so I was surprised about the fewer texts thing…
Thursday at 8:14 pm
Max, it must be still very very noisy over there, isn’t it?
Daniel, that’s interesting!
I think it’s because the “Jan 1st” new year is more for celebrating with colleagues and friends and the traditional “Chinese-Korean” new year is to be celebrated with family.
Thursday at 10:40 pm
여러분, those interested in knowing more about Seollal, here’s an article by The Korea Times:
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/art/2008/02/135_18545.html
The tiltle of the article is: Seollal: One of Biggest Traditional Fests.
And the article was written on Feb.5,2008.
Thursday at 10:47 pm

Thursday at 11:04 pm
Friday at 3:06 am
Hyunwoo: 아니요!!! I’m younger than you, you should give it to me insead
Friday at 9:03 pm
I know this question may sound silly but “do Korean youngster still bow to elderly nowadays? ” People at my place don’t bow anymore..so I’m just curious.
ps:Happy Chinese New Year/Happy Spring festival everyone!!
Wednesday at 10:55 am
Jacqueline, thanks for the link!!
Taliana, hehe - I feel old… T.T
comet, thanks for the question! and my answer is “yes”
they still bow to elderly people, although it’s not the traditional big bow that we introduced in the video.
Tuesday at 5:33 am
[…] Go-Stop is usually played during 설날 and 추석 but certainly makes it into a regular game night in Korea. There’s a certainty that every night of the week someone in Korea/Japan/Hawaii/Your mom’s house/etc is playing the game. […]
