I was studying the negative adverb 안, and i have some questions.
I read everywhere that when one want to negate the 하다 verbs, one have to put 안 in the middle like this:
일하다 —-> 일 안 하다
Ok i understand that.
But what are the exceptions?, cuz i saw this:
깨끗하다 —–> 안 깨끗하다
조용하다 —–> 안 조용하다
Is it because these are adjectives, not verbs?
And if it’s because of that, does that happen with all 하다adjectives??
But i also saw a verb with the 안 before the whole word, not in the middle. Check this:
저는 아직 안 정했어요.
Is it because this sentence is in the past?

저는 지금 한국어하고 일본어를 공부하고 있어요.
오디오 블로그가 어려워서 안 들어는데요. 한국어는 아직 많이 부족해요.
Wednesday at 10:57 am
Eric, 반갑습니다. 어느 나라 사람이세요? 일본어랑 한국어는 문법이 많이 비슷하죠? ^^ 앞으로도 열심히 하세요! 그리고 코멘트 많이 남겨 주세요!
Wednesday at 11:00 am
Jacqueline,
good question!
일하다 is a combination of 일 + 하다, right? which comes from 일을 하다
but 깨끗하다 and 조용하다 are (just like you pointed out) adjectives, or descriptive verbs to be more precise, so you can take them apart and say 깨끗 안 하다 or 조용 안 하다
because they don’t come from 깨끗+하다 and 조용+하다 they are just as is.
And 정하다 is an action verb, but it’s always negated as 안 정하다 because 정(although it’s a chinese-character-bases word) is too short.
결정하다 is the same thing as 정하다, but 결정 안 하다 is fine
I hope this clears things a bit. But don’t worry, we’ll get into this in a future lesson very soon! You’re studying really well!!

현우, Thanks a lot for the explanation!
I finally got it!

저는 미국 사람이에요. 네, 일본어랑 한국어는 문법이 비슷해요. 상당히 도움이 돼요.
코멘트를 많이 남길 거예요.

Eric,
제 생각에는
“코멘트 많이 남기기 = 한국어 실력 상승”이라는
공식이 성립하는 것 같아요!
앞으로 코멘트에서 자주 뵐게요!
