I don't know how Koreans compare to other people groups as far as likelihood to develop acne, but plenty of the millions I live around have it. Some have very severe cases. If Koreans as a whole have less... I wouldn't know it. It would be interesting to find statistics....

But Koreans are also very concerned about their image, so it's pretty common for people to do whatever they can to cover it up. Acne is the kind of thing that can draw sharp insults from your peers.

Keith 씨!

Yeah, he can get rowdy, and he often doesn't remember what he says. His English isn't very good, but because he's loosened up, he's willing to try out his English more, which can get awkward.

One time, he sat in front of me and tried talking to me. I suppose the honourific English phrase would be "his words were inspired by the alcohol." At one point, I thought he was saying "Daniel, I'm upset with you." I said, "Oh, I'm sorry. What's the problem?" I misheard him, because he said "there's no problem." He got a Korean to translate: when he said "upset," he meant "appreciate"; his pronunciation was a bit off.

Anyway, a bit awkward.

Wow, great class y'all! I have to admit, though, I'm not really a fan of 회식 at my Korean company, though. Yeah, it's definitely good to be able to eat a lot and drink when the boss/company pays, but I don't like when my boss drinks too much. It can get awkward, shall we say...:???:

I knew most of the drinking etiquette from before (man, it is complicated!), but the "looking away from your boss" one was new. My first major 회식 with my boss, I think he was watching me when I drank, and he said something like "잘 마셨네!," or "well drunk" or something. Maybe I should have turned away, but I didn't know...

I love the two hands thing, but I know usually it's acceptable if you just touch your arm with your other hand. I understand that also when you clink glasses for 건배!/Cheers!, younger people should make sure they clink their glasses underneath those of older people or their superiors.

Hmm, we haven't had 회식 in a while at my job. I should start worrying that it will be that time again...

We have 회십 a few times each semester at school. Sometimes it is just the "Man Teachers" which you can imagine is really interesting. After a few drinks they suddenly are much more comfortable speaking English! And it always includes several rounds of eating/drinking/billiards..etc.

Anyway, if you are drinking with Koreans and use the proper manners, you will score BIG points. Using two hands, and turning away from my superiors always elicits a positive response. One time I was sitting between the 교장선생님 (principal) and another high ranking teacher. I was across from a the 교감선생님 (vice principal)...you can see my predicament. I can't face left, right, or straight. So I had to twist to my right as far as I could to take my shot!

I'm glad that everyone enjoyed the video :)

It's good cause we're not camera shy! We had a great time going out... and it ended up being a long night actually :P Haha, but that's what 회식 is all about!

Have any of you tried 삼겹살? When you eat it, you have to eat it all in one bite... Cause if you don't it starts falling apart :D But it's all worth it...... aww yea!
