And the best part is it’s on the company! So join KoreanClass101.com as we go over Korean food, Korean drinks, and Korean dining etiquette in today’s lesson! Do companies in your country go out together often?
여러분 나라에서 회식이 많이 있나요?
Wednesday at 7:20 pm
회식이 너무 재미있는 것 같아! 맛이겠다!! 주겠네!!
Wednesday at 7:21 pm
맛있겠다…
Wednesday at 7:37 pm
오스틴 ! “주겠네”는 “죽겠네”라는 뜻으로 쓴 거지? ^^
Wednesday at 8:19 pm
Probably… But actually, I had to look it up in one of your audio blogs… and I copied the spelling from there! No 5. informal version, when you said all your friends were jealous that you lived with your sister because she must cook for you!
so…… ^^
Wednesday at 9:42 pm
아하! 오스틴! 이제 알았다!! “좋겠네”를 말하는 거구나 ^^!
Wednesday at 9:50 pm
Hey guys, great video. I got a sneak preview yesterday though.
I’ve learnt quite a lot of foreign language from going out with friends to restaurants, bars etc, so it was great to see KClass getting in on the action. Also, I got to put a face to many voices that I’ve gotten to known.
I thought 키스 looked so young… I guess it’s the deep voice that made me picture an older guy… when that with him explaining the drinking game began, it took me a second before I realised it was 키스.
Marky先生 looks taller than I thought! A short voice on a tall guy.
And Seol 선셍님… to use a line from our intermediate series, 친자 예쁜데!
간사합니다! 한번도! (Again, please. Make a video, that is.)
Wednesday at 9:54 pm
Rats! I had it spelled that way before I second-guessed myself and checked that PDF!….
Anyway, I’m glad you guys managed to find some 삼겹살 in Tokyo! Looks like it’s a pretty authentic Korean restaurant!
Wednesday at 10:05 pm
Yes, Max, I didn’t know you still had subscription to my personal feed.
I wanted to see how it looks before we post it on youtube, and you were the first one to watch it. ㅋㅋ 1등!
오스틴, yeah it was a very nice place. 정말 맛있었어!! And all the JapanesePod101 crew members really enjoyed 삼겹살 as well! Let’s go to a 삼겹살 place again when I go back to Korea!!
Wednesday at 10:29 pm
Dude.. I am already there!
Wednesday at 11:01 pm
Ahhh that looked so fun, and tasty, and awesome!! I really want to try 소주, and Keith you were right about the 삼겹살 looking like bacon on steroids XD;; I’d looooove to have some of that.
설씨 is so cute! I want to kidnap her XD
현우씨, how did you fit all that in your mouth?! It was huge! And for some reason, until now I had always thought that it was wrapped in cabbage o__O maybe that was just bad subs on k-dramas, or is it also sometimes cabbage, or is the cabbage wrapped one something different?
Wednesday at 11:38 pm
looks like a ton o’ fun.
Thursday at 12:16 am
하하, Taliana, it took me like 3 minutes to chew everything and swallow. Haha. But it was really good! Hmm… and about cabbage, I think the subs are wrong … some people like to wrap rice with boiled cabbage, but not meat.
it’s usually lettuce.
존, yeah it was a lot of fun! Have you tried 삼겹살 before? It’s really gooood!
Thursday at 12:44 am
I have training every few months in Chicago, the next one is coming up soon. I will try it then, because thats the closest Korean restaurant around here.
Thursday at 4:05 am
I’m worried that I’m not going to be able to eat Korean food when I come…the 감자 looked good but the rest looked like I’d have to be pretty brave to try it. >.
Thursday at 4:16 am
Aw, my comment got cut off.
Anyway, it looks like you guys had fun and Taliana - I agree, 설씨 is so cute~!
Thursday at 5:07 am
That looked so fun. You should record the next lesson drunk. I kid.
I’ve had 삼겹살 before at a friends house. I love it (pork fat rules! heh) but, like most Korean dishes, the mise en place is time-consuming. Anyway, how do people feel about teetotalism in Korea?
Thursday at 7:51 am
James…
Drinking is really important in Korean culture, and they consume A LOT of alcohol, but most people are understanding of those who choose not to drink. Honestly a lot of the respect I get from the Korean teachers I work with here is because I will drink 소주 with them. Seriously. After one of these 회식 meals last year, the head teacher got up and gave a big speech to the whole faculty and then told them about how I was the “소주 champion.” I only had maybe 2 or 3 shots!
That said, it’s just my experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if non-drinkers are ostracized in some circles, because there is so much group identity to worry about.
But the thing is, teetotalism isn’t very common… just some of my thoughts!
Thursday at 9:25 am
Hey guys great video , very nice seeing you all
i would like to see more of these gatherings
good job
Thursday at 10:14 am

I’m glad that everyone enjoyed the video
It’s good cause we’re not camera shy! We had a great time going out… and it ended up being a long night actually
Haha, but that’s what 회식 is all about!
Have any of you tried 삼겹살? When you eat it, you have to eat it all in one bite… Cause if you don’t it starts falling apart
But it’s all worth it…… aww yea!
Thursday at 2:47 pm
We have 회십 a few times each semester at school. Sometimes it is just the “Man Teachers” which you can imagine is really interesting. After a few drinks they suddenly are much more comfortable speaking English! And it always includes several rounds of eating/drinking/billiards..etc.
Anyway, if you are drinking with Koreans and use the proper manners, you will score BIG points. Using two hands, and turning away from my superiors always elicits a positive response. One time I was sitting between the 교장선생님 (principal) and another high ranking teacher. I was across from a the 교감선생님 (vice principal)…you can see my predicament. I can’t face left, right, or straight. So I had to twist to my right as far as I could to take my shot!
Thursday at 2:57 pm
Wow, great class y’all! I have to admit, though, I’m not really a fan of 회식 at my Korean company, though. Yeah, it’s definitely good to be able to eat a lot and drink when the boss/company pays, but I don’t like when my boss drinks too much. It can get awkward, shall we say…:???:
I knew most of the drinking etiquette from before (man, it is complicated!), but the “looking away from your boss” one was new. My first major 회식 with my boss, I think he was watching me when I drank, and he said something like “잘 마셨네!,” or “well drunk” or something. Maybe I should have turned away, but I didn’t know…
I love the two hands thing, but I know usually it’s acceptable if you just touch your arm with your other hand. I understand that also when you clink glasses for 건배!/Cheers!, younger people should make sure they clink their glasses underneath those of older people or their superiors.
Hmm, we haven’t had 회식 in a while at my job. I should start worrying that it will be that time again…
Thursday at 3:42 pm
Fun video! really enjoy it!
Hope you keep doing more!
I would like to eat 삼겹살
but without the lettuce, green leaves, ssamjang and the perillia leaf
Just the meat !

Friday at 5:25 pm
설이에요^^
사라! there are thousands of kinds of food in Korea, and I hope you can find what you can like!
근데,, 삼겹살 정말 맛있는데^^
나중에 코리안클래스 정모(밖에서 만나는 정기 모임)이라도 해서
함께 맛있는 한국음식 먹는건 어때요?
Sunday at 11:35 am
Keith 씨!
Yeah, he can get rowdy, and he often doesn’t remember what he says. His English isn’t very good, but because he’s loosened up, he’s willing to try out his English more, which can get awkward.
One time, he sat in front of me and tried talking to me. I suppose the honourific English phrase would be “his words were inspired by the alcohol.” At one point, I thought he was saying “Daniel, I’m upset with you.” I said, “Oh, I’m sorry. What’s the problem?” I misheard him, because he said “there’s no problem.” He got a Korean to translate: when he said “upset,” he meant “appreciate”; his pronunciation was a bit off.
Anyway, a bit awkward.
Monday at 6:52 am
Hmmm i seen a lot of korean people and the thing i noticed is that korean people doesnt have any acne for some reason can any1 explain to me why plzz and thanks
Monday at 7:21 am
I don’t know how Koreans compare to other people groups as far as likelihood to develop acne, but plenty of the millions I live around have it. Some have very severe cases. If Koreans as a whole have less… I wouldn’t know it. It would be interesting to find statistics….
But Koreans are also very concerned about their image, so it’s pretty common for people to do whatever they can to cover it up. Acne is the kind of thing that can draw sharp insults from your peers.
