With new and innovative ways to learn Korean, we’re bringing in the new year with a new feature! Before King Sejong created Hangul, Korea used Chinese characters, hanja, as the main writing tool. As this is the case, about 60% to 70% of Korean words are based on these Chinese characters. So knowing some Hanja, will definitely increase vocabulary! Tune in to today’s news feed and find out about our new feature, why it’ll be a great tool to use, and how we will be approaching this! And after you listen in, remember to stop by KoreanClass101.com and leave us a comment!

漢字는 좋아해요! 즌곡말이 할 스 있어… because… ahhh…
I like 漢字 a lot because I read Chinese. It’ll make Korean learning a lot easier. If I can see a 漢字 when I learn a Korean word, somehow it just “sticks’ a lot easier. And since so many Korean words have 漢字 associated with them I’m sure my Korean vocabulary will grow exponentially.

Hey Jacqueline, do you know how the Chinese have the Chinese New Year in February? It’s also from the lunar calendar.
Maybe from now on we should call it Chinese/Korean New Year.
Or “Spring Festival” as it’s known in China.
Happy New Year on February 7 year of the rat! *Yuppi*
