I am getting an error opening file error. Is anyone else getting it?
Saturday at 12:42 am
I can open the file
I hope it’s working for you now?
Saturday at 12:55 am
You can only take it once? That’s so intimidating ._.
Is it possible to fail it, or is it just that if you do really bad it lessens your college choices?
Saturday at 1:23 am
It’s not ‘pass’ or ‘fail, but you have the full mark of 500 points (it used to be 400 points for my year) and how many points you get will be play a very important role in what uni you will enter. So it’s just one chance.. tough, right? So a lot of students decide to study for one more year and register themselves in an Suneung-specific institute.
Saturday at 3:39 am
Ahh, it sounds a bit like the HSC, the end-of-highschool exams in Australia where I grew up. With those, your marks give you points, and those points decide what Universities you can apply to, and what courses you can do. I think that you can resit your HSC though …
The 수능시험 sounds so much scarier!
Saturday at 3:46 am
Haha, yes, it is scarier. I seriously think that the students should be given more than one chances to sit the test because one bad luck and that might take one more year .
But other than that - it’s a very comprehensive test so your score doesn’t change all of a sudden on the exam day unless you’re sick or very unlucky.

Taliana도 NSW사람 이에요!?
나도 HSC 헸어요!
They didn’t offer Korean when I was learning though.
Saturday at 11:48 am
Maxiewawa: XD I grew up in NSW!
They didn’t offer Korean when I was learning, either. My school was tiny (20-30 students per grade), and we only had one language teacher, who taught German and French.
Saturday at 11:37 pm
Wow. 20-30 students per grade? That’s very small. I would prefer such a school to something that is too big. We had 50 students in one class
Sunday at 6:28 am
Yeah, I always really liked it being that small. It meant that the teacher could find the time to sit down and help you if you needed it. In my last year of highschool, I transferred to a much larger school so that I could study part-time instead of full-time, and the classes were huge. I didn’t like it at all, the teachers never had time to help everyone in class.

Monday at 11:51 pm
wow! that sounds so tough!!! only one day to take the test??
??:
I would do bad in Korea. I’m not a very good test taker

[…] The plane arrives an hour early but despite this we still have to wait until 10:50pm at the train station for the last 무궁화 train to 여수. So here I am in 용산 but am unable to browse the cool electronics stores that 현우 씨 has told us all about. We board the train and arrive in 여천 at about 4:15am. I believe there was a big exam that Friday and so the train was absolutely packed, standing room only for most of the trip with students returning to their homes. We had seats. I tried to sleep most of the trip. There are no more taxis waiting at the train station when we get there so we lug all of our stuff down to the main road and catch two taxis to the hotel. Our driver is not very talkative. He is just starting his shift. I am not feeling too talkative either. I’ve been up for quite some time. […]

Thanks for posting the links to the videos, Austin. This is interesting indeed, huh? I wish we had a better testing system for college entrance.
But I really think highly of all the sincere effort that all the high school students in Korea are making for their future, regardless of how fair or efficient the testing system is.

Nice to meet you! Are you learning Korean?

[…] Want to brush up on your 수능 knowledge? Recommended reading material include this short photo essay about 수능 from a Korean high school student. For that matter, SeoulGlow posted a video a few years back that’s pretty interesting to watch (alt link). Of course, KC101’s advanced audio blog has more on the subject. Also, 현우 produced a regular audio blog that covers the same topic from a slightly different angle, too. […]
