Hello Keith, Seol and Hyunwoo! I LOVE KoreanClass101.com. It’s certainly one of the best language podcasts found on the net! (And I do mean it - I’m a linguistics student and I’m very critical of language courses! :p) I particularly liked it when Keith used all the linguistic terms like postpositions, honorific suffix etc. Love for languages is really contagious and I must say I’m already addicted to Korean and KoreanClass101! I’m actually planning to pay a visit to south Korea some time next year! In fact, I wish your podcasts were out more often so I could listen to them every day!
So yeah, I’d like to know what my name in Hagul is and how it is pronounced. I’ve got a Chinese name which is 劉偉成. I hope the characters come out alright!
By the way, are we going to have a facebook group like japanesepod101? They even have their own application! I wonder when we’re going to have it!
Shane
at 7:31 pm
Hi Shane,
I just added the Facebook application for KoreanClass101.com. Here’s a link:

Shane,
Thank you so much. I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying studying with KoreanClass101.com
and like you said, I hope we’ll be producing podcasts more often soon, which is actually going to happen very soon!
Your name in Chinese is very interesting
“Shane” written in Korean is 쉐인
and your Chinese name read in Korean pronunciation is 유위성 .
I hope this helps, and thanks for your support! ^_^ We’re trying our best to make it an even better podcast and website!! ^_^
at 8:21 pm
Wow, Eran. The application is cool !! Thank you so much!!!!

Hi Shane, Thanks for the comment

at 10:14 pm
Hi everyone, a lurker here hoping to find out how to say “Be sure to leave us a post”
Thanks,
Sara ^-^
at 12:38 am
Hi Sara(사라)
“Be sure to leave us a post” in Korean would be
= “댓글 남겨 주세요” ^^
(daetgeul namgyeo juseyo)
a post means a comment or a reply here,
and the two words most commonly used by Koreans
are “리플”(ripeul) and “댓글”(daetgeul).
But 리플 is just a Koreanized word from the English word “reply”, so it’s better to use 댓글.
댓글’s 댓 means ‘re-’ or ‘counter-’
and 글 means ‘writing’
So it becomes 댓글 남겨 주세요~~~
at 12:53 am
Thank you!!

언제든지 물어 보세요^^! (Ask me anytime!)

To the KoreanClass101 team,
Komapsumnida! I love this website. I just found it yesterday and I have listened to many podcasts already! I have been a Hallyu fan of Kpop, dramas and movies the last few years. Only last year I started to casually learn Korean. Before then, I could understand very simple Korean. Now that I am relistening to stuff from before, I understand more.
I have checked out other sites/lessons and I like the commentary and style how you introduce the material too. I LOVE how natural and how everything is well explained in terms of cultural context and words used (literal/translated meaning). Keith, Sol etc you are all great! Plus all of you have great voices and personalities that make listening to the podcasts more enjoyable.
I have been taking a class casually but this is a great supplement to my own casual studies. I just want to be able to understand dramas/tv shows/songs without subtitles. I am a long way off but I enjoy your podcasts and materials. Keep up the great work! It is SOOO appreciated!

can u write my name in hanggul…
it’s camille…
i have an idea how it is but i’m not really sure since i’m a beginner..
i would really appreciate it.. thanks!!
at 10:02 am
Hello everyone,
First Dian,
I am not Indonesian! I am Korean.
how to write “friends forever” in hangul?
You may say, 영원한 친구 (yeong-won-han chin-gu) or 친구 영원히 (chin-gu yeong-won-hi).
Second Sahar,
fisrt name : Sahar
last name: Hijazi
One question… Is the “h” between ‘Sa’ and ‘ar’ is silent?
Remember - The order for Korean name is Last name + First name.
If the “h” is not silent, then 히자지 “Hijazi” + 사하 “Sahar” = 히자지 사하.
If the “h” is silent, then 히자지 “Hijazi”+ 사아 “Sahar” = 히자지 사아.
Last camille,
Your name is “camille”
I think the “e” has no sound, right?
Your Korean name is 카(ca) + 밀(mille) = 카밀.
If the “e” has “i” sound, then 카 + 밀(mil) + 리(li) = 카밀리.
If the “e” has “e” sound, then 카 +밀(mil) + 레(le) = 카밀레.
I am not sure with your English name. I think 카밀 is right….
Okay guys,
Thanks for listening…
cheers,
Tim
ps. If you like my comment, please give it a listen to Absolute Beginner Season 2. I made that season. I am sure you guys will learn a lot of Korean from that season. I hope to see you guys throughout my lessons…

Dear Tim KC

Pliss write my name in hangul
I’ve been looking for 6 month
My Name Robin Gert Pea
Thanks a lot
감사합니다
at 10:12 am
Hello Robin,

반갑습니다 로빈~~! “Nice to meet you Robin~~”
Did you just notice your Korean name?
Okay, about “Robin Gert Pea”… (I am not sure about the correct pronunciation of your name but, here is my best shot).
“Robin” = 로(ro) + 빈(bin) = 로빈 (ro-bin) “Robin”
“Gert” = 저(jeo) + 트(teu) = 저트 (jeo-teu) “Gert”
“Pea” = ?? is it pronounced as “pi” or “pia”?
If it is (pi), then 피 (pi) “Pea”
If it is (pia), then 피 (pi) + 아 (a) = 피아 (pi-a) “Pea”
Therefore, your name, “Robin Gert Pea” is either
로빈 저트 피 (ro-bin jeo-teu pi) or 로빈 저트 피아 (ro-bin jeo-teu pia).
Then, bye for now 로빈,
cheers
Tim
ps. by the way, what’s your nationality 로빈?

We don’t pronounce the sound of “r”; therefore, your name would be pronounced as 조(jo) + 아(a) = 조아 (jo-a).
The pronunciation of your name is somewhat funny since 조아 (좋아) means “feel good”/”okay”/”sure”…
anyway… thanks for listening,
cheers,
Tim

at 6:23 pm
안녕하세요….
I like Korea… i wish i could go there someday later…
at 10:42 am
Hello everyone~~
Okay, let’s do it one by one…
1. “Rea”
It depends! How do you pronounce it?
If it is pronounced [ri] => 리 [ri]
If it is pronounced [ria] => 리아 [ria]
2. “rohidayah”
How do you pronounce your name? Can you give me romanzi for your name?
3. “Hend”
I think your name is pronounced [hend] => 헨드 [hen-deu] “Hend”
(If I am wrong, let me know)
Thanks for those comment,
cheers,
Tim

안녕하세요
i wanna ask,
what’s “get well soon” and “keep your health” in korean (with hangul)?
and my name –> 페리시아 (felicia)
is it correct? hehe
thanks for answering
at 12:09 pm
You can say ‘잘 될거야. (Jal deolgeoya / get weel soon)’ and ‘건강해(geonjanghae / keep your health)’ in Korean.
You can write your name as 페리시아, but it will sounds like ‘Perisia’.
펠리시아 sounds like ‘Pelisia’ and it is the best way to write your name in Hangul : )
Thank you!
at 12:52 am
thank you so much
so i’ve to put double ‘r’ to make sound like ‘l’ ?
and i found these from above :
“Gert” = 저(jeo) + 트(teu) = 저트 (jeo-teu)
Elmar is 엘마
Jorge: 조지
Ardianti - 아디안티
i’m just curious,
why the ‘r’ is always unwritten?
woaah hangul is really hard
i’m still confuse with the rules
at 10:20 am
In Korean you cannot write an ‘r’ like sound in front of another consonant. If you do that, it becomes an ‘l’ sound. So the only way to put an ‘r’ in between is by putting ‘르’ in between. But if you do that, it sounds even less like an American ‘r’ than if you just drop it.

아녕!!
i wanna ask you something.
how letter W written in hangeul?
and what is the difference between ㅋ and ㄱ? 감사합니다 ^____^
at 8:48 am
I’m Jaehwi from Koreanclass101.com
The sound of W depends on where it’s placed.
For general, Korean people add 우(u) sound when they see the alphabet W, but actually there is no official sound for the alphabet.
The name of the alphabet W in Korean is 더블유 (deobeulyu)
Referring to the sound of ㅋ and ㄱ, many listeners have had the same problem. ㄱ sounds like ‘gang’s G sound’ and ㅋ sounds like K sound of Korea.
Generally, many languages such as English don’t have significant difference between those two consonants. However, Korean does. If you say 사다(sada), it means ‘to buy.’ However, if you put a little more stress on 사다(sada), the meaning will be changed as ‘to be cheap’ 싸다(ssada). It’s the same for ㄷ(d) and ㄸ(dd), and ㄱ(g) and ㄲ(gg). If you know some Spanish words, consider double consonants as Spanish consonants. It has more stress than English. For example, single consonant ㅅ sounds like S of Sports, and double consonants ㅆ sounds like S of Samba. In that reason, Korean people often use double consonants to write down Spanish words. And please keep listening to Korean lessons so that you can have trained ears.
For more, you can check the Second episode of Pronunciation series of Koreanclass101.com

I hope this helps.

Hi, Nguyen Ha Linh.
Thanks for the comment : )
You can write your name in Hangul as 응구엔 하 린 if I follow the vietnamese pronunciation.
But to know the way to read based on Chinese character, I would need the Chinese characters since the pronunciation of those characters in Korean is different from the one in other countries. But It seems like it should be like 정 효린 (Jeong Hyo Rin).
I hope this helps.
Thank you : )

hello,
my name is rikki and I wanted to know how to write it in Hangul.
I think it would be written out as 리키, but im not sure.
please help me out, thanks.
at 10:38 am
Hi Rikki,
리끼 should be more similar to what it sounds, but Korean people usually don’t like to use ㄲ consonant in someone’s name. So 리키 would be the best in Hangul.
I hope this helps.
Thank you,

First of all, how do I write my name in Korean hangul? My name is Darwin. Or my chinese name Liu Wei An

Hi Darwin,
It is good to know you have like Korean so far!
Your name in Hangul would be 다윈. I know it is pronounced with R sound but when you change it to Korean(at least how Koreans call their foreign names), it sounds like Da-Win.
Your Chinese name would be 리우 웨이 안. This one is actually pronounced exactly the same!
Hope you have more fun as you take more classes!

Thank you for the comment.
We’re glad to hear that you like to learn Korean with us.
It’s cute to say that to your girlfriend! but i’m a lil bit afraid about her name. If it’s Mar-Gi, it would be 말기야 사랑해. when we call, we add ~야. However, if her name is Mar-Gi[pronounced] as Mar-Ji] then it would be 말지야 사랑해.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know.
Thank you,
