Somehow I like Miki more
. Probably ‘cos I understand her
.
Hi Hyunwoo!
The most amazing thing about Hyunwoo is his breakdancing. In case you didn’t realise, those aren’t still photos of Hyunwoo there.
Just listened to all of it, and liked it! Didn’t catch so much though. I got 서울 에서…and ‘대학교’ (I’m not sure how it’s spelt) which I took to mean that you’re at university in Seoul.
Nice to meet you! I understood maybe 2 sentences in there, but I just love hearing the language, learning the rhythms and intonations.
Thanks!
I got 안녕하세요 and 선현우 and audio blog
Nice to hear your voice though ^^
Jisho 씨 안녕하세요 ! I hope you can understand me one day too
Jimmy(지미), thank you! I love your blog !!
Joakim(요아킴)
Please compare the transcript to the sound, and you will realize that there are some more words in the story that you are already familiar with. Thanks!
Endoru(엔도루) 씨, 안녕하세요 반갑습니다.
Nicely done, your a very good speaker as in …not rushed at all and everything was at a good cadence….I understood less than I thought I might, but thats why I am here.
I was happily surprised to know Hyunwoo will be doing the audio blog!!!
Even though I could not understand a single word of what he said, it may have been really nice!!!
Keep up with the good work!!!
I didn’t write too well… I meant to say that they aren’t photos they are movies and that you’re holding that pose while the camera is running.
Hello ! Didn’t really understand what was said. Only managed to catch a couple of words here and there. But, great photos ! Looking forward to hearing more of you.
안녕하세요, seoulsista and Shalyn!
Happy to meet you too!!
Looking forward to telling you more stories!!
Jasta(쟈스타) 안녕하세요. ![]()
Nice to meet you!
If you keep studying with other levels of lessons while listening to this audio blog once a week, you will soon find that it’s not so difficult within a few months! ^_^
Bonjour Hyunwoo!
Yes, I speak a bit of French. My uncle married a French girl so I learnt a bit of French. I learn other languages now but do keep a bit of French under my belt at all times.
Is there a mistake in the transcript?
In the transcript in the learning center, we have a long paragraph which starts: 자, 이것으로 첫 번째 오디오 블로그를 마치겠습니다. But when we hear the voice we hear 자, 그럼… and it continues, as the transcript is written. Is there a word missing (그럼)?
It’s the second last paragraph.
Maxie, you’re totally right! we were missing one word.
Thanks for the heads up! We’ll fix that right away!
Max,
wow - thank you for pointing it out!
It’s really appreciated! And sorry for the error !
용서해 주세요(= Please forgive me.)
Matthew,
Thanks you so much! Merci mille fois!!
. Tu es d´où? Les Etats Unis, peutêtre?
Your French is very good
I have known Hyunwoo for a while since I met him last year in Seoul and I must say, he is a genius and genuine nice guy!
Im so proud of you, and yes…..his breakdancing skills are incredible. did you know he can spin 5 times on one hand?!!?!?!
(Benson) !!
코멘트 고마워!(Thanks for the comment!) 한국에서 다시 볼 수 있는 날을 기다리고 있을게!(I’ll be waiting for the day that we can meet again in Korea!!)
지미
Il me sauve. Mais moi je déteste “GOOGLE Traduction BETA”. C’est terrible!
Well, shouldn’t I be saying all this in Korean? It’s been fun practicing my French again. Vive Corée!
Great first audio blog! Maybe we should do a 가족 소게 over in the forums… (All this French is making my head hurt, haven’t spoken 불어 for a very long time:???:)
Bitte Schon.
I mean…
Oh, you know what I mean.
Matthew, moi aussi aussie… ah forget it…

I’ve been to your blog and with your passion and interests in languages, I’m sure you can learn Korean really fast!
So you are from 영국(England) ?
Matthew //
Yeah, french(프랑스어) verb conjugation is making millions and millions of students around the world to give up on French
But like you said I’m so glad that we have those websites like verb conjugator.
And I hate traslation websites too!
Let’s write more Korean here, then. It’s really cool that everybody knows some French!!
Vive la Corée!!!!!!
Steve //
Good idea
Let’s do that!! I’ll make a thread! I’m sure we’ll cover this in a lesson soon but this can be a little bit of warming up !
Max //
Toi aussi aussie? Haha~ ^^
(I want to go to Australia one day!)
Hi Hyunwoo Sun! I would say welcome but it’s probably the other way around! haha
I took french in high school but I didn’t like and have forgotten all of it but that was almost ten years ago…
I didn’t understand any of the blog… i don’t really have time to study korean with work, graduate school and japanese but I will keep listening everyday anyway! Oh and Hyunwoo! I live my sister too and one of my sisters is a fashion designer!
man… lots of typos of in my last comment. excuse my english, ever since living in Japan I am constantly dropping words…
Devon
nice to meet you again!
Haha you and I share the same pain….
(Are you living in Japan?) 여동생도 일본에 살고 있어요?(Is your sister living in Japan too?)

I’m looking forward to learning Korean… I spent the evening transcribing your transcript for the Blog, and Hangul is getting easier to read for me! Now I just need to learn to type it better! (and yes, while I used the transcripts to get these words right, I DID type them!!!)
No, I lived in Japan last year. Now I live in Chicago but I’d love to live there again in the future!
Hyunwoo, I would really love to write more in Korean but I have only just started learning it as many other people have as well. The blog is great and the videos I saw on youtube are also really good. Nice work here! Love all of it.
Jimmy(지미) //
와~~ you’re amazing.
Please keep up the effort - I’m sure you’ll soon be good at Korean !!
Devon(데본) //
Oh, I see. I wish I could spend some time in Japan in the future too.
Where in Japan were you?
Sherry(셰리) //

Matthew(매튜) //
Thank you so much!
I’m looking forward to sharing more and more from now on!
i am listening to the audio with reduced speed but still i have a hard time catching everything like in this part The third syllable 있, i can’t hear it. Is there something special about it, does it prolongue the previous sound, or is my hearing just bad?
Actually Jasta, your hearing seems to be very precise ![]()
sometimes, when one syllabic block is proceeded by another syllabic block with the same vowel, they almost merge into one.
For example:
재미있다, 미 is followed by 있, which uses the same vowel ( ㅣ ). So in Korean, it’s much easier to fuse these two together.
Colloquially, 재미있다 sometimes is said as 재밌다 just because it’s much easier to merge the two together, without having to pause between 미 and 있.
Hope this makes sense
Had my first day of 진극아 at 대학교, 흔극사람 애 만나다. About half the class is Korean!. I said I was from 하조 (instead of 호주) and kept calling everyone 김 씨 (we’ve been told it was really rude) but at least I said something!
Jimmy, I’m glad that learning Hangul is getting much easier! I hope you’re enjoying these audio blogs, as well as the rest of the lessons
Devon, keep on listening. Even if you aren’t actively studying, there are definitely things you’ll pick if you keep listening!
Matthew, we will be coming out with some “How to write Hangul” series, which will be debuting october.. Hopefully it’ll simplify it you!
Steved, from my knowledge so far of the users here, you have the highest level of Korean. How was this audio blog for you?
Let us know folks! Great to hear from all of you!!
lol Maxie… you’re a riot
if you called everyone 김 씨, didn’t about half the Koreans look up?? kekekek
It’s funny you should say that… the first guy I met said his name was 김 something-something… I said “Oh, I can just call you Kim if it’s ok, that’s easier to remember for me to remember.” He smiled and said “but we’re all called 김!”
오빠, i’ll tell my friends about this place who are interested in korean ,and to get more chinese people here:)
Jasta //
Just like Keith said, your hearing is very precise. You have a very good point!!
I’ve made a little video clip, hoping that this will help you understand the difference between the sounds of 재미있게 and 재밌게, because in Korean this can be very subtle.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7-KsCAKf5TQ
Please check out the video.
You can hear “재미있게” and “재밌게” separately ^_^!
Thank you so much for pointing it out.
Oops, the link has not been activated
This will be easier to click ^_^
Haha, Max
I guess you will either be very good with Korean names soon or your Korean friends will all ask you to call them by their Chinese names
But … half of all your classmates are Korean? WOW.

Max, Sherry is living in Shanghai
Keith,
I liked the audio blog. I did not have any difficulty with it. 현우씨 spoke in a very easy to understand way. After listening through the blog I listened again with the transcript which I think will really benefit me in my reading speed (I am very slow reading Korean
).
I finally got around to posting my 가족 소개 in the forums.
hi Hyunwoo Sun i just started learning Korean two weeks ago
so i’m going to ask many questions . so be kind to me
by the way is there any website like Jim Breen’s dictonary
for korean ?
thanks
I know you are learning Japanese and you are good in it. ![]()
Hi Steve I’m glad that you found it easy to understand
I’m hoping that this Blog can be of help to both beginners and advanced learners
~!! I’ll go and see your 가족 소개 in the forum ^^!!
Rigo //
I don’t think there’s any Korean dictionary in the same format as the Jim Breen’s Dictionary,
but these dictionaries will be very helpful for you in learning Korean.
http://endic.naver.com/
http://kr.dic.yahoo.com/search/eng/
http://engdic.daum.net/dicen/view_top.do
The word for English Dictionary in Korean is “영어사전”, so for Koreans, “영어사전” means an English-Korean dictionary, but these websites all offer English-Korean and Korean-English dictionaries~!!

Wow you speak four languages - that’s Malay, English, Japanese and Chinese, right? You’re adding Korean to the list - that’s cool!!
C’est tres bien.
It’s nice mixing up the languages here.
I knew if I were to add Malay here, I won’t get a respond anyway. *hehe*
But, still, I am still an amateur to the language and yes, I think I need the time to understand the rest of what you’ve written there
Have many Korean friends and been Seoul for a trip before and definitely love that country, the food and the culture especially.
Love to be able to master the language someday.
Peace.
P/S Yeah, I would like to add French and Spanish to my list as well. Not gonna be easy at this age but I will try. *hehe*
Hyunwoo Sun!
Welcome my friend, thank you for your luck! ![]()
I’m very happy to listen to your voice.
![]()
It’s very pleasant and your Korean is great too even do I didn’t understand but I going to try my best.
Endoru!
I recommend you both languages (French, Spanish) they are great.

Wow. You’ve been to Korea?
Where in Korea did you go?
Sindy
Please feel free to ask my any 질문(question) you have about 한국어(Korean)!!
I’ll be happy to help you out!!
Keith, 선현우 thanks for the explaination. wow even a video! Now that’s what i call good service
i watched the video a couple of times and i hear the difference but the 2 little guys on the bottom of 밌 or 있, aren’t they pronounced ss in other words? in the video they sound like a p or something.
Jasta, you’re right. But there are a few pronunciation changes in Korean.
When ㅅ is in the last position of a syllabic block, it has a “t” like sound. But if you have ㅇ or ㅅ in the first position of the next syllabic block, the sound changes to what it should be, ㅅ (s). Does this make sense at all?

The iPod notes for this lesson are a bit messed up. They show another lesson
hi
oppa, Max is also living in shanghai now?really:) after a week study,i seem to be crazy because i had to stay up every night and the teachers are now more and more Strict to us ,well…i will do my best ! have a nice day~
Hey all..
Reaching way back in history here…. but I just want to let you in on a new project, and challenge you to do the same! Remember max talked about some weekly video HW assignments a while ago? Well, I know that that making videos really helps with my speaking, and I really want to make more, but it’s hard to think of good subject matter when I’m studying on my own here.. so I decided to make a video using some of the vocab from each audio blog that was new for me.
Lesson 1 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZOIsHYKaB4
If you have access to ANY sort of video camera, I strongly encourage you to make some videos.. we won’t laugh! We’re all in this together!
Austin, this is GREAT! I think everyone should watch your video!!
Oh wow…I did not understand at all…only acouple of words…but hey…atleast i understand acouple of words…
…hehehe but hopefully one day I’ll understand all of this intro of Hyunwoo!!!
Hi Mai
Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything! You will one day !! Please keep studying ^_^
