Hello, and thanks for listening to KoreanClass101.com, you’re number one source for Korean language resources!
Monday at 6:48 pm
Congratulations Keith and Seol! Today I begin my quest to learn Korean! Can’t wait!
Monday at 7:16 pm
Koreanclass101.com 축하해요 ^_^ !! Great lesson!!
Peter, 한국어 실력 기대하고 있을게요!! ㅋㅋㅋ
Monday at 7:21 pm
Thank you for the lesson
Just like Peter I begin my journey as well
Monday at 7:27 pm
Hyunwoo Sun! Annyeonghaseyo? Jeoneun Peter-imnida.
Keith and Seol are really good teachers!
Cheoeum boepgesseumnida.
Thanks for all your help, and for being part of the team! Really, really glad we made your acquaintance!
MexicanHat! Looking forward to having some company on this journey!
I know most of the people over here will be tuning in!
Hwaiting! I hope that is right.
Monday at 7:34 pm
Well done Keith and Seol!
Absolutely fab lesson, am really looking forward to getting stuck into some serious Korean. I wish I’d stuck to doing the Jpod101 lessons as they were released, and I’m going to try really hard to keep up with these korean podcasts!
Will put a link on the website in a short while to help spread the word!
Take care and congrats again,
Victoria
Monday at 7:36 pm
Oooh ooh ooh and I meant to say …
… *really* good lesson format. I really like how you dive straight into the Korean and speak full speed at first, and then work through it afterwards. It doesn’t give anxious beginners the opportunity to feel intimidated by what they’re about to hear, which is really good.
Looking forward to more of the same,
Victoria
Monday at 7:39 pm
Annyeong haseyo!
Jeo neun Joakim imnida. Cheoeum boepgesseumnida
Congratulations to the newly lanched site! But here I’m going with your first feedback haha. You should romanize more in the PDF. Especially in this beginner lessons when I don’t think all of us know Hangul yet.
Awesome guys! This lessons was so easy
I mean like japanese but with different words
Monday at 8:03 pm
Hmm, I also think there is a typo in the PDF. It says boepgesseubnida instead of boepgesseumnida and the hangul looks like it could be both so I don’t know. Check it out please.
Monday at 8:15 pm
Peter // 안녕하세요 - 저도 만나서 반가워요 ^_^!! I’m excited to be a part of the team as well!! Thanks for the encouragement and “앞으로 잘 부탁 드립니다.”
And I’m surprised that your Korean is already quite good!!
JockZon // Just like you said, it’s something that needs some checking on, but actually it could both in Korean because you write “습니다(sseubnida)” but pronounce “슴니다(sseumnida)”. But we could use some more consistency. Thanks for pointing it out!!
There’s a pronunciation rule when it comes to ㅂ and ㄴ coming together, but I’m sure that will be covered in a lesson pretty soon!
Monday at 8:18 pm
Hi JZ,
I’d be the first to admit I’ve barely studied Korean, but from what I’ve seen of romanization its far from a precise art. There isn’t a consistent 1-1 mapping from the roman characters to the hangul ones; as you say, the hangul can look like more than one possible romanisation.
I’d definitely recommend trying to learn hangul as soon as possible, though. Its not as difficult as it looks, and the pronounciation will relate more closely to what you’re reading. Its like one of those pain barriers - you’ll go through a phase where it slows down your learning because its so new, but you’ll have to do it sooner or later and the sooner you do it the sooner you’ll be proficient with it.
Good luck with your studies!
Victoria
Monday at 8:22 pm
Hello, everybody!!!
Nice meeting you Keith and Seol. Thank you for the lesson.
Hello everybody from JPOD101 - I can see some people from there already. I believe everybody was really looking forward to listening to these lessons.
We are going to have Peter-san participating in the foruns as a student, too? That will be really nice.
I have to admit this lesson was really tough. I think I’m still not able to pronounce some of the sounds, maybe I’m lost already, but I’ll try to practice!!
See you then!!
Monday at 8:25 pm
I’ve made a post about hangul in the forum for us who need to learn it as quickly as possible ^^
Monday at 8:45 pm
In case you want to know, here’s how to write the names of everyone who’s left a comment here so far :
Peter = 피터
)
MexicanHat = 멕시칸햇 (but I’m sure this is not your real name
Victoria = 빅토리아
Joakim = 요아킴
João Paulo = 조아오 파울로
Please correct me if I’ve mispronounced your name, and my name in Korean is 현우!
Monday at 8:51 pm
Hyunwoo-ssi! 감사합니다.gamsahamnida.
Hehe, okay, I am cheating a bit, as Keith is right here.
But also using Survival Phrases, so kind of cheating on my own.
Thank you Hyunwoo-ssi! My name in Korean! Very cool!
Monday at 8:59 pm
Thanks everyone for the responses!
Victoria is right. Learning hangul is your best route to learning Korean. Please please please don’t rely on romanization! There has been a new standardized romanization system implemented near the year 2000, but it’s far from perfect as the romanization can change according to different circumstances.
We’ve included the romanization, but we will probably use less and less of it as the lessons become more advanced. This is because it will probably become a hindrance to the learning. (Unless you all want the romanization in the more advanced lessons)
But just like victoria said, learning Hangul is EASY! I guarantee that you will be accustomed to it within a day, and become proficient in it within a week (with practice of course).
Actually Hyunwoo will be helping out with making a visual aid for learning how to read and write Hangul. Everyone please greet your forum administrator! And we hope to implement his invaluable skills in everyway we can. Be sure to acquaint yourself with Hyunwoo. He’ll definitely help you with your learning curve.
현우씨 이렇게 열심히 하셔서, 대단히 감사합니다!!
(Hyunwoo, Thanks for all your hard work!)
Everyone please comment and tell me what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong. Let me know your thoughts on how I can make this project as good as it can be. Maybe even better than japanesepod101??????????
JK Peter!!
Monday at 9:00 pm
Yay! Way to go
Congrats everybody. I will try this out on my korean friend on Tuesday
Monday at 9:06 pm
Keith: The only problem I see with learning hangul is for instance some that words are pronounced differently than they are spelled. Exactly like the thing I pointed out in my previous post. But I’m studying now as we speak
Monday at 9:35 pm
Keith // 고마워요. ^_^ Thanks for introducing me to everyone. I’m really enjoying it here!
Joakim // Yeah there are lots of “rules” and “irregularities” in Korean, but once you learn the basics, you’ll soon understand that it’s all for your ease of pronunciation
화이팅!!
Monday at 9:38 pm
Doraemon(도라에몽) // Please let us know your friend’s reaction! ^_^
Monday at 10:31 pm
Hyunwoo Sun,
Thank you for my name in Korean, even though I am still not able to read it, that looks very nice!!
Waw, 20 posts already, I believe you are going to get a record of posts today!!!
Monday at 10:37 pm
Whoops! Missed the correct spelling of the romanization. I’ll fix that right away. Please be understanding of the romanization, as it’s still fairly new not only to me, but to all Koreans. Thanks for pointing that out JockZon.
Also, I’d like to thank Eran and Jason for all their hard work in making this website. I’m amazed at the quality and the speed at which this was produced. Outstanding job everyone. And of course, who can forget Peter from jpod. Thanks for being so supportive and understanding. Thank you team!
Monday at 10:57 pm
Yeah I know romanization is hard but you should stick to one system. Right now I can see ㅈ being romanized as j and ch in different words.
Monday at 11:43 pm
I’m glad people seem to be enjoyng the site.
Monday at 11:47 pm
Yes, Jason! We love the site! Thank you for the hard work! お疲れ様でした!수고하셨어요!!
Monday at 11:49 pm
Finally!!!
Congrats to everyone…추카추카
Monday at 11:52 pm
Vicky, 방가방가~!!ㅋㅋ
Tuesday at 12:50 am
Aah my bad, ㅈ is romanized correctly. Sorry!

Tuesday at 1:56 am
Hi Rigo,
Studying two languages at the same time can be confusing sometimes. The important thing is not to be put off. I’ve been studying Japanese, Mandarin and a little bit of German for over a year. Once in a while I’ll try to think of a word and the exact right word in one of the other languages will arrive on the tip of my tongue, but not as often as you’d think - and not as often as when I first started trying to learn.
Its like your mind starts off thinking there is “native” and “foreign”, and lumps everything not “native” into “foreign” category. So to start with, you’ll get them mixed up. Then, the more you practice, your mind starts to split out “foreign” into the real categories - “japanese”, “korean” etc. I’ve found it helps to switch quite often between the languages - if I do a day of one and a day of the other, I’ll be ok - if I do three weeks of one I’ll find it’ll get a little harder.
Japanese and Korean do have some similar grammar, which may be helpful, and some “false friends” or words that sound the same but have different meanings, which will probably not be helpful. So it may be a little harder than Mandarin and Japanese, or German and Japanese. But they do sound quite different, so it should be easier than say Italian and Spanish, or Spanish and Portuguese.
Good luck with it, and I’m sure if you stick at it you’ll achieve your own goals. After all, that’s the most important thing isn’t it?
Victoria
Tuesday at 2:19 am
Agreed, don’t be put off learning more than one language, it’s definitely possible!
I enjoyed language learning more when I started to learn more languages. It’s nice to have something different to work on when you get stuck or tired of one language for a day or two.
I’ve studied Mandarin for 3 years, Japanese for 2 and I just started Korean 6 months ago. I’ve decided not to work on Japanese as I just don’t have time for 3 languages (my gf is Korean!), and i’m so pleased to find Koreanclass101.
I think Korean really is a cool language to learn, as it isn’t popular and if you can speak it, you really are a member of an exclusive club!
Tuesday at 2:38 am
Rigo = 리고
you have to type F L to get ri and R H to get go in Korean.
Hope this will help you.
Tuesday at 2:46 am
thank you virginia and Richard for your comments
i started watching korean dramas when there was nothing good on tv,somehow i started to like it as i started seeing
some aspects of korean culture like wedding ceremonies
chirstmas celebrations , even music that i never heard before, so i’ll do my best
ganbarimasu !
by the way how do you say ganbarimasu in korean?
ciao
Tuesday at 2:50 am
thank you Vicky
Tuesday at 3:00 am
We normally say Fighting! 화이팅! as Ganbarimasu….
Tuesday at 4:43 am
Keith and Seol,
CHUKA HAMNIDA!
i’ll take you and dave up on the Hangul Challenge!
as for those of you debating learning 2 languages at the same time… it seems hard, but it’s not impossible.
i studied Latin, Italian, Ancient Greek, French, and Anglo-Saxon at the same time. I also studied Egyptian Hieroglyphics. at the same time!
It’s totally possible….
Tuesday at 5:01 am
I’m studying english, german, japanese and korean at the same time
althought my english is almost fluent and my german as well.
Tuesday at 6:53 am
Although this is the first lesson, I can begin to see the similarities between Korean and Japanese
Only thing I can think of to improve the lessons is to break down the sounds a little slower?
Is it me or is Keith’s laugh infectious? every time he laughs I seem to crack up really bad as well
Tuesday at 7:33 am
KoreanClass101 crew/listeners!
Congratulations Keith!
Finally KoreanClass101 is up and running.
I agree with everyone and like Peter-san and Jockzon said it’s my first time learning Korean and hope I can learn it.
Right now I’m learning Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Norigean wish me luck everyone!

Tuesday at 8:11 am
Hello Sindy, your name is “신디” in Korean!
만나서 반갑습니다 ^_^
By the way, does everyone know that Keith’s name is written “키스” and there’s no way to differentiate the sound with “키스”, meaning “Kiss” in Korean? ㅋㅋㅋ
(no offense Keith!) ㅋㅋ
Tuesday at 8:15 am
Studying more than two languages at the same time is a lot of fun.
You get confused at times, like you start talking in Japanese when you were actually meaning to say something in Chinese, but I think it’s part of the fun too. ^_^!
And actually it’s very a big benefit if you know one language when you study a new one, right?
Apart from the confusion part, the only problem in learning many languages at the same time seems to be how to divide and use your time wisely.
화이팅!!
Tuesday at 8:16 am
Wow - more than 45 comments within 12 hours, this is amazing!
Tuesday at 9:12 am
AWESOME!
I’m gonna learn Korean now too. My best friend is Korean, it would be cool to impress his mom by speaking a little bit of it at least. The owner of my favorite sushi bar is actually Korean, I see him all the time. I’m sure he will throw me even more free food than he already does if I learn more Korean!
Good job on the site, I am glad it is presented a lot like JPod. I wish you all much success!
Tuesday at 9:15 am
Hey, be sure to fix your blog link on the navigation bar, it links to the Japanesepod101.com blog.
Tuesday at 9:17 am
Hello! I’m really REALLY enjoying my free 7-day trial of KoreanClass101. Thank you! The teachers are simpatici, and the pace is exactly what I want. Yay! http://www.koreanclass101.com/wp-images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif\
Just have one question — I have registered succesfully, but seem to be unable to use the RSS feed option (even the public feed) with my iTunes, using the same user name and password in the confirmation e-mail from KoreanClass101. The iTunes button in public feed area of the homepage also seems to be “dead”. I am guessing that this is only a little bug somewhere, so I’m delighted to just enjoy the first lesson for now!
Once again, thanks!
Tuesday at 9:18 am
Professor Marky Star,
you’re gonna have to take that TOPIK (aka Test of Proficiency in Korean) test if you want to prove to me that you’ll have reached proficiency in Korean. I hear they have the test twice a year - once in September and another one in April.
Tuesday at 9:24 am
What a great community of language lovers!!!
I studied Spanish and Italian at the same time in the past. Actually, I used to have Italian classes in the morning and Spanish classes in the afternoon the same day. The point is that as a native Portuguese speaker those languages are not so difficult for me.
Then I tried to study a little Mandarin while studying Japanese and I really decided to stop because I was mixing them up. Specially because I was a completely beginner in both and I thought it wouldn’t be so beneficial.
Now I really want to try some Korean because of all the encouragement we’ve received… and not only that… having so many people starting together seems like being a classroom with lots of beginners as well and I definetely like the feeling.
I was hope that with my university classes back I’ll still have time to try them both.
By the way, we are almost at the 50th post. Let’s keep them coming!!!
Tuesday at 9:29 am
Thank you Vicky 비키 and Hyunwoo Sun!

Holy moly!!! 53 comments and going strong… Truly off to an amazing start! Congratulations to Keith, Seol, and everyone else involved in the launch of KoreanClass101.com. I also want to give props to our beloved Jason Charrier who has been instrumental behind the scenes and a force on the technology side of things…
João Paulo, the podcast will be available on iTunes in just a few days… We want to make sure we work out all the major kinks before we officially put it out to the world!
Auntie, the Basic and Premium iTunes feed are not available for 7-Day Free Trial and require active subscriptions.
If you can wait and want it on iTunes today, you can do go to “Advanced –> Subscribe to Podcast” from the iTunes menu, and add http://www.koranclass101.com/feed.xml manually from iTunes.
Once again, awesome job all around!

But it might be a bit difficult at first to be a member since everything’s in Korean. But check it out!

Tuesday at 5:23 pm
Heh, there’s still plenty of time yet …. Am really looking forward to this. Did some other Korean study last night and it was really tough going, and the pronounciation was difficult to hear let alone repeat - guess I’m not used to the sound of the language yet. By the end of that I was quite demoralised. But coming back here and reading through all these comments is really great - I’m feeling very motivated to study again now!!
Tuesday at 5:56 pm

Not yet, and not before they posted the review.
But, the review isn’t really “the next lesson”, and we are pretty close. I’d say its still possible.

Great lively first lesson. This is sure to make learning Korean fun.
Good Luck.

Seol!!
Hyunwoo, how can I say that in Korean?
Thank you! We’re SO glad to have you on the team! You and Keith rock!
Thank you!
Saturday at 12:31 am
Hmm, I’ve got a question? Do you record this in Japan at the jpod studio?
Saturday at 1:13 am
Haha(하하), Peter
That’s a difficult question! This is when the ‘politeness level’ dilema comes to play a vicious role! kkk
Generally you can say “멋져요!” (meot jeo yo!)
But, I think you’re on close enough terms with Keith and Seol, so you can say “너네들 짱이야!” (neo ne deul jjang i ya!)
:D
Sunday at 11:16 am
Hey, nice one! Sorry for the late post, I was in Hong Kong.
I just tried to type that in Hangul… phew, maybe another time. I’m at the point where I press every button looking for the right one, then when I press the next button it disappears…
Good news is that I came back from HK with a new Macbook, and have been fooling around with iMovie.
Have a look at this!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGSAc_nXJ1o
That’s Aika. (I saram-i Aika ieyo)
She’s Japanese but lived in Seoul for 3 years and her 한국어 is pretty good.
(IlBon Saram, and… that’s as far as my Korean goes at the moment…)
If anyone else is interested in video intros, put a reply to mine and I’ll edit them together!
Sunday at 1:59 pm
Seol!
Peter-san is right, is good to have you here on KC101!
You have a very nice voice, keep up this great work.

Monday at 10:59 am
Hyunwoo, thank you! Please keep up the great work!
Seol&Keith, “너네들 짱이야!” (neo ne deul jjang i ya!).
Monday at 11:16 am
Maxiewawa, I checked the video
Is that you in the beginning?
Monday at 11:18 am
Peter도 짱이에요 !!
Monday at 4:01 pm
@ Hyunwoo Sun(선현우)
네, 맞아요. 저예요.
선현우 중국어더 일본어더 영어더 한국어 하새요?
(So you speak Korean, Chinese, English and Japanese? 中国語も日本語も英語もできる?)
うらやましい/羡慕你哦!/I’m jealous!
ところで、「も」と言うのは韓国語で더でしょう?
も = 더?
Anyway, consider my mind officially blown. I’ve seen you around both JPod and CPod (and now KPod) but only recently made the connection.
Monday at 4:08 pm
Maxiewawa, awesome video ^^ Btw, how old are you?
Monday at 7:30 pm
감사합니다 Jockㅅ씨! It’s all thanks to my new computer.
25歳です。
If anyone else wants to make a video, I can help. If you don’t know how to, I’m sure we can do something on Skype. If you’re camera shy, we could just use one of these. ->
Monday at 8:12 pm
Max,
も in Japanese is in fact ‘도’ in Korean, althought it’s very similar in pronunciation to ‘더’.
But what you wrote was very very close to the correct sentence, which is :
“선현우 씨, 중국어도 일본어도 영어도 한국어 하세요?”
I hope it helps. ^_^
Yes, I’m writing the Korean blog for ChinesePod at http://blogs.chinesepod.com.ko and I know that you left comments and I left replies there, too, remember
?
But my Chinese is still very limited and I am mainly studying from the cpod website, but when it comes to Korean, there’s loads more that I can share, so I’m so glad that we have KoreanClass101.com !!
Yeah I’m widely interested in learning languages, just like everyone else here ^_^ and I also speak French. Are you interested in French?
Tuesday at 7:57 am
I am really excited to see that Korean class is here. On the other hand, it’s really hard for me to choose one language to focus on, having played in Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish already. I am way too greedy. Anyway, thanks guys, I am with you for this.

안녕하세요~
KPOD 열린거 축하드려요!!
전 이런거에 처음이라서 궁굼한게 있어서 질문하는데요. 지금 전 한국말을 좀 하는데… 혹시 더 어려운 레슨들이 올라오고, 들으면서 공부하면, 한국어 SAT2에 도움이 될까요?
Monday at 11:58 pm
안녕하세요 제니퍼 님
반가워요! 우와 한국어 정말 잘 하시네요. 어느 나라에서 오셨어요? 더 어려운 레슨들도 9월부터 꾸준히 올라올 것이고, 그 외에도 재미있는 자료들이 많이 올라올 거예요. 분명히 한국어 시험 준비하시는 데에 도움이 될 거예요! ^_^
Wow we’re at lesson 3 already!
Monday at 11:59 pm
Everyone go check out the lesson number 3 !!
Tuesday at 2:08 am
그렇군요 ㅎㅎ 그럼 그때까지 꾸준히 복습하면서 기다리고 있을께요!! 그리고 전 미국에 살고있어요. 근데 한국어 공부하려고 네이버에서 좋아하는 카페가입한후 자료들도 읽으면서 다른 회원들과 같이 얘기도 나누고 했거든요. 그래서 한국어 많이 늘은거에요~
Tuesday at 2:11 am
제니퍼 / 우와~ 그래도 너무 잘하시는 거 아닌가요? ^_^ 원래 한국에서 태어나시거나 그러셨어요?
Tuesday at 11:20 am
태어나긴 했는데.. 태어나자마자 여길로 이민왔어요 ㅋㅋ
Tuesday at 8:36 pm
그렇시군요 ^_^ 포럼에 가 보시면 재미있는 자료들을 많이 접하실 수 있을 거예요. 제니퍼 님은 주로 어떤 내용의 한국어를 공부하고 싶으세요?
Wednesday at 2:57 am
제가 배우고 싶은거는요.. 글을 쓸때 “되”랑 “돼”를 언제 써야할지.. 그런 종류(?)의 한글을 배우고 싶은데요 ㅎㅎ
Wednesday at 9:48 am
그렇군요 ^_^ 조만간 그런 부분들도 다루게 될 거예요~~!! 화이팅! 지금 한국은 비가 굉장히 많이 오네요~
Friday at 8:51 pm

QUESTION: How do I write my name in korean?
감사합니다
Saturday at 2:14 pm
안녕하세요 Jacqueline! Your name in Korea is “쟈클린”.
What country are you from?(어느 나라 사람이세요?)
Welcome to the stie!(환영해요!!)
Saturday at 2:31 pm
감사합니다 Hyunwoo Sun (선현우) for answering my question so fast! .
I’m from the Dominican Republic (도미니카 공화국).
만나서 반갑습니다.
Saturday at 2:33 pm
쟈클린(Jacqueline)
한국어 공부는 어떻게 시작했어요?
(How did you start learning Korean?)
Sunday at 9:14 am
Hyunwoo Sun(선현우) 씨
Firstly I love learning languages, but I never had even a little interest in korean or that country until after I started watching by chance a South Korean drama. Before that I knew literally NOTHING about South Korea. That was about 10 months ago.
Approximately 4 months later after I wacthed my first drama I started learning korean by myself. So I’ve been studying it since 6 months ago. I have to study it by myself because in my country there’s no place teaching korean. There are places teaching english, french, italian, german, portuguese and even japanese and chinese (mandarin), but there’s no place teaching korean here TT.
I started by learning Hangul first and then using some you tube videos of Let’s Speak Korean S1.
Then I found many useful internet sites and bought Integrated Korean Beginnig 1.
Currently I’m watching Let’s speak korean S3.
I’m always listening to korean songs and watching dramas or shows, that encourage me to keep learning it and helps me with it.
I just love love love Kpop!, that’s probably my main motivation.
I’m still in a Begining level, so I just know some basic words. But I’m very optimistic that in the future I will learn this language, because I’m fascinated with the whole Hallyu(Korean wave) thing. I’m simply crazed with Kmusic,Kdramas, kshows, kmovies and Korean Language!
Sunday at 10:16 am
Jacqueline, Wow that’s very cool. But it’s really too bad that there’s no please to go to and learn Korean in Dominican Republic. I know you must have other goals too but please become the first one to speak fluent Korean in your country and teach people some Korean as well ~ ^_^!!!
It’s amazing that you’ve been studying by yourself and managed to continue learning when there’s no one to learn from around you, and I’m pretty sure that you’ll master Korean very quickly if you keep studying like that!!
I hope we can all help each other in learning and enjoying Korean at this website!!
화이팅!!!
Thursday at 8:54 am

Wow! I really enjoyed the first lesson, though I have to admit I had already started the 15 newbie lessons.
Keith and Seol, 감사합니다! It has been so fun learning Korean in such a new and exciting way. I have tried hard to learn by myself, but I was always missing that cultural element. Thanks so much!
Thursday at 12:07 pm
HI!! this is such a great website!! i’m a student in America and right now in my school i’m learning Japanese, but i love the Korean language too! So this site is really cool, although it might be hard to learn both languages at the same time, lol!
anyway, just one question: should i start at beginner lesson 1 or newbie lesson 1? i’m confused. anyway thanks!!
Thursday at 1:13 pm
Simon, Thanks for the feedback! We’re really glad that we can help you all out!
William - Actually Japanese and Korean are actually very similar in terms of grammar and word usage. They’re in the same language family (kind of), so it would be similar to learning Spanish and Portuguese at the same time.
I think you can do it
Thursday at 6:04 pm
William, try Newbie lesson 1. That’s what I did!
It’s definitely possible, I’m learning Japanese and Korean at the same time too. If anyone happens to be interested in Spanish & Portuguese, head along to http://www.spanishpod101.com and http://www.spanishpod101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22 for a thread on Portuguese.

We’re a pretty nice community! hehe.

Teresa..
That link Hyunwoo provided should get you set up on your mac… but there are a few different Korean keyboards to choose from. I think you want to select the one called “2-set” I’m not at my mac right now, so I’ll double check and post again if I was wrong, but that is the version of the keyboard that is most common.

Welcome to the site!! Hope you’ll enjoy learning Korean!! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to post in the lesson comments!
Monday at 1:42 pm
Hiya, I’m new here and I’m completely determined to master Korean. It will be my fourth language and since I’m almost obsessed with the language—in the sense of phonetics, kanji, and creation I want to learn.
I’d like to thank Keith and Yun Seol for a great beginners course. I also hope to make some friends.
I’d also like to say hello to Hyunwoo Sun since s/he has been giving out welcomes and making people feel welcome. That’s really cool and felt a bit of credit was due.
Monday at 1:49 pm
Annyeonghaseyo
Vabby !
Welcome to the site! Nice to meet you
I’m sure you’ll get everything you need to master Korean here!! We’ll do our best to help! What other languages have you been studying? From how you wrote the word “kanji”, I can see that you’ve studied Japanese, probably?
Hehe. Anyway, welcome!! 화이팅^^!!
Thursday at 7:45 am
Annyong haseyo! Chonun Miranda imnida (is it okay Miranda? How would you write it in Kangul? Well I have a Chinese name too, do we translate Chinese name into Korean one also?
It’s 彭诗允). Ch’oum pepgetsumnida. (Ah sorry for the spelling because I looked for another site before and they spelt it like that lol but this site is a way better!
)
I’m so happy heh heh…but em…I don’t know if it will turn like the last time for Japanese (You know Rocketjapanese? It’s a great site for learning Japanese), I had 6 free lessons and after I need to pay with a credit card but I don’t have one anyway I’m too young lol The problem is my mom doesn’t want to pay, she’s afraid to lose all her money in the card and doesn’t trust the site…So at last, I can’t learn Japanese (all these works for nothing
) lol
This site is wonderful!!! I’ve always dreamt about speaking Korean fluently…well I can’t right now haha but after the first lesson, I thought that it wouldn’t be as hard as I thought finally. I’m proud of myself and proud of you guys (You rock!). I can finally watch Korean movies or dramas or videos whatsoever after all the lessons
I hope when I’ll be older, I’ll have the chance to find a Japanese teacher or to have a credit card =P But from you guys…Do you think it would be safe ordering things from the internet? Like you give your credit card’s code and they will take the amount…or something like that I don’t know how it works actually
Anyway Kamsahamnida! Annyeong! (I know I wrote too much XD Mianhamnida)
Thursday at 12:48 pm
Miranda..
I know it can be scary to give your credit card info over the internet, but there are all kinds of safety measures in place. This site uses a secure system. It is not likely that anything would happen.
But even if it did, anywhere in the world, the credit card companies cannot make you pay for something you didn’t buy…. So come on! Join the fun!
Thursday at 12:55 pm
Miranda, yes, just like Austin said, you can trust this place
And your name in Korean would be 팽시윤, it’s almost the same as the original pronunciation in Chinese
Welcome to the site, 시윤
Friday at 1:50 am
Yay! Thanks guys…I’ll ask my mom if I can buy it
If she doesn’t want to well…maybe I’ll buy it by myself when I’ll be older *sigh* But I just sign up for a free account (7 days trial) does that mean after 7 days my account will be canceled?
Take care!
Friday at 5:57 pm
Miranda, You can use the site even after your account is over! We have a lot of free things you can enjoy! So please remember use all the free materials that we have!
Saturday at 1:49 am
Alright thanks Keith
You guys are amazing you know?
Annyong!
Saturday at 3:30 am
This korean learning site is great!! Is it true that the 7 days free trial lessons are the same as the paid learning center’s lessons, but the only difference is that the free one last for 7 days and i can only download a limited amount of those notes? 이것 buy고 시퍼요!
Sunday at 7:13 am
This is kinda cool that I can now learn korean!
So would it be a little easier to learn korean since I’ m chinese, because I remember watching this korean show with english subtitles and then there a few words that sounded so similar to cantonese! And also, how do I write my name in korean?
Monday at 12:07 pm
annabanana
Exactly
What you can use with the 7 day Free Trial is what you can use after you subscribe
And for your information ^_^ 이것 buy고 싶어요
is “이것 사고 싶어요” I see that you already know a lot of Korean!!
Monday at 12:09 pm
annabanana,
Yes, the Premium Learning Center is exactly what you see during the 7-day free trial. But again, you can keep your account after the free-trial ends and continue to use all the free material on the site! Thanks for listening!
Kathleen,
Yes if you speak Chinese, you’ll be able to recognize some words! Korean has a looooooot of borrowed words from Chinese (though I’m not sure if Mandarin or Cantonese has a closer pronunciation!).
And to write your name in Korean you can write: 캐슬린!
Thanks for listening!
Monday at 12:10 pm
Hyunwoo beat me to it!
Tuesday at 12:37 am
Oh Korean’s prononciation Is closer to the Madarin prononciation =)
Tuesday at 12:58 am
Mandarin* Sorry

Oh and I have questions =)
When we say “I’m really sorry”, is Joesonghamnida. But I’m confused with the prononciation of the “Joe”. Is it “Je”?
And what’s the difference between Aniyo,Aniya and Ani?
And If you want to say a sentence with a less formal way, do you replace the “imnida” and the “hamnida” by “eyo”?
Sorry I know I had a lot of question ^^”
Have a nice day!
…another question sorry
You can say annyong when you say “bye” or “hi” right?
In a site, when you say something like “bye” it’s written “Annyonghi kasayo” and “Annyonghi kyesayo”. Do I really need to say “Annyonghi?” Or “Annyong is ok?”. And do I really need to say “Annyonghi kasayo” or “Annyonghi kyesayo” as a “bye” or I can just say “Annyong”?
Haha sorry again it’s pretty confusing for me

I am very happy to learn with you, I really enjoy your lessons, it’s a pleasure to ear the dialogues, the explainations, to read les détails des points de grammaire et de me rendre compte que j’avance dans l’apprentissage, tout ça dans une ambiance détendue et cadrée à la fois
J’étais vraiment angoissée à l’idée de mettre mon premier message, mais bon voilà c’est fait ….

:)
When you say “I’m really sorry” that’s 죄송합니다, and 죄 is pronounced something like the first part in “Jane” - it’s not ‘제’ but please try saying Jo and E very quickly and you’ll get the sound
And when you end a sentence in a formal way, “imnida” is used for the verb “to be”, and “hamnida” is for “to do” and “eyo” is for the word “to be” but in the standard politeness level.
And “annyeonghi” is the adverb version of the verb “annyeong” which is a noun, so you need to say ‘annyeonghi’ when you are linking it with other verbs, but you can just say ‘annyeong’ alone when you just say that noun to mean ‘hi’ or ‘bye’

첫번째 메시지(first message) 감사합니다.
I understood everything you wanted to say! You’re already doing a very good job!
In Korea, you spell Cannes as ‘칸’ or sometimes ‘깐느’ so you can say 프랑스 칸 가까이에 살아요.
Thank you so much for bringing up the courage to leave the first comment, et j´éspère voir plus de commentaires par vous
n’inquiétez pas des petites erreurs et veulliez continuer à écrire et pratiquer ^^ Nous sommes toujour lá pour vous aider!

Hi I love Korea! Welcome to KoreanClass101.com!
저는 한국사람인데, 미국에서 태워났어요. ^^ 교포라고 해요.
(I’m Korean, but was born in America. That’s called a gyopo.)
And as for your comment, you’re nearly perfect! You can write it in hangul like this:
키쓰 씨는 한국 사람이에요? 키쓰 씨는 미국 사람이라고 알았어요. 근데 한국사람이라고도 할 수 있을까요?
The last part is saying: (Can you also be called Korean?)
And to say you’re curious, you can say: 궁금해요. (gunggeumhaeyo)

For example, 말하다 is to say or to talk,
And 한국인이라고 말하다 means to say that (you) are a Korean

Sunday at 1:17 am
i love korea,
인데 is the same as 이다 + 그런데, which means “but” or “and” - it’s used for linking two sentences ^^ often used with the nuance of “I did AAA and then (or but then) BBB happened.”
할 수 있을까? means “I wonder if (I/you/he/they…) can do it”

Hello,
I am also new here and have to find my way through the lessons.
Is there a recommandation for how many lessons a day is healthy? One Lesson a day? Or one hour? I am thinking of getting a one-year subscription and ask myself if it is really worth it and why I should do this.
I really must start to learn korean right now, please help me.
Thank you.
Thursday at 2:38 pm
Hi Laura
안녕하세요 로라. 처음 뵙겠습니다 ^^! Hope you will keep enjoying listening to our lessons!
Hi Mario
So listen to as many lessons as time allows, but make sure you practice what you learned.
And you can easily do that in the comments! We try to answer every single comment or question!
Nice to meet you. I recommend listening to as many lessons as you’d like to. The more the better. But there’s one rule! To get the maximum effect out of studying with our lessons, please keep in mind that just listening to a lesson a single time won’t automatically guarantee that you will master the lesson points
Wednesday at 11:47 am
Oh my god this is soooh hard!
I am learning Japanese as well (for quite a while already) and have always been interested in korean - then I found japanesepod101 (great GREAT help btw) and with it of course koreanclass101.com - and thought - well here’s my chance! ^^
I love it but I find it soooooooh much harder to pronounce even halfway decently. I remember I didn’t have so many problems with Japanese..
but that might be because I am originally from Austria and my native tongue is german - which has way “harscher” or maybe “harder” sounds. Korean is so fluent - so round - even more than english. It’s soooh hard for me to grasp it. and omg so many letters and hidden vowels and such! Japanese is so much more straight forward - I could pronounce romanji practically immediatly - I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce korean romanizations gaaaaaah
I hope I’ll get the hang of it eventually though …
I won’t give up!
love you guys - you’re helping so many people out there, thank you so, so, soo much!
love
Jill Andersen (from Vienna, Austria)

Thank you so much.
I am not formally learning korean but this will be very useful for me if ever I meet my korean schoolmates. There is a foreign student program here and I used this lesson to greet them–they were all, “Wow…” I heard one of the boys say, “She said ‘annyeonghaseyo’..” and they were all smiles. Haha. I think I entertained them probably from my bad accent! Thanks to this I can practice on pronunciation.
Sunday at 2:36 am
Hi guys,
IDK if this has been said already (I did try to read all the comments, but I might’ve skipped a few: whoa, over 200 comments?), but in the pdf, in the Hangul transcript 저는 is missing from both lines even if Keith and Yunseol pronunced it and it had been rominized. Just thought to let you know. BTW, I realize that it can be dropped from the convo, but it was a bit confusing, esp for a newbie who’s just mustered the alphabet and tries to read while you guys speak
Anyway.
안녕하세요. 세레나니다. 처음 뵙겠습니다
I suppose a native English speaker would koreanize my name as 시리나, but that sounds weird to me. I’d rather go with the Italian-souding version 세레나 which is the way I’m used to. Feel free to correct me. I just started with this site, which is awesome!!!

4. I wanna know Korean customs and traditons.

안녕하세요.
I started trying to learn Korean about a year ago, but had to stop. Then I got my hands on “연세이 Korean” (I think that’s how it’s spelled) #1, 2 and 3. While working with the first few pages of that, I came across this website, and never has it been easier to learn how to speak and read before. The website has a superb design, making it easy to navigate, and the lessons are superbly structured.
I’ve got a question, though, that I hope to get answered here. How do you start a letter in Korean? Do you use “안녕하세요”, “여버세요” or…? And how do you end it?
Well, I’ll try ending this post with
안녕히계세요,
부사범 크록새테르 툴이바르, 이 단.
(And in that you’ll see my motivation for learning Korean, too.)
Thursday at 8:04 am
Hello Everyone,

I am LOVING the lessons. I worked on the first 3 today, about introductions and everyone. I can already speak how to introduce myself in korean, like in the example! I love the romanization..it helps me a TON on how to pronounce the different words.PLEASE keep the romanization in the advanced lessons…I dont know what I would do with out it. If you trying to learn how to speak/understand spoken korean..is it better to learn how to read hangul and write hangul first…or learn how to pronounce and understand korean first?
Keep up the amazing work!
Monday at 10:32 am
Hello Courtney,
Thanks for listening!~
Learning “Hangeul” is not too hard if you know English.
I do recommend you to spend some time to learn Hangeul first.
After learning Hangeul, especially some of alphabets (consonants and vowels), every lessons will be getting easier and simpler for you to learn.
REMEMBER - Many Korean grammar rules come from the system of SOUND!
Simply think this -
Korean Hangeul has
Basic consonants - 14
Combined consonants - 5
Basic Vowels - 10
Combined consonants - 11
If you know the basic consonants and vowels, those combined ones are easy.
So, basically if you know 10 + 14 = 24 Korean alphabets, learning Korean will be easy. WHY NOT spending some time on that!!!???
It’s like… you have to teach English Alphabet first when you try to teach English to your kids or children, right?
Thanks,
cheers,
Tim

I think learning Korean should be easier than other since you know the structure of Japanese : ) And that’s right : ) Many Korean words have the same meaning and Pronunciation as that of Japanese vocabularies such as 약속(yaksok; promise) and Yaksoku (Japanese word)
If you have any questions about Korean, please let us know.
Thank you. 감사합니다.

This is really good, but I’m curious. Do we ever learn how to read the characters?
Do we do that on our own with the practice sheets or does it come along later?
Friday at 9:24 am
Hello Jackie,
Thank you for the comment. We have a special video lesson to learn Korean characters. If you click the ‘video lessons’ on the top menu, you can find the five lessons under Hangul Videos. I believe it will help you learn Korean characters one by one.
And this is the Hangul practice sheet that we have on the Reference materials menu.
http://www.koreanclass101.com/learningcenter/reference/hangul_practice_sheet
I hope those help.
Thank you.
