Hey, yorobun! My daughter studied this lesson, and she has a comment:
I’d love to try bulgogi …… how do you remember so much information, along with the words typed in Korean? I can’t even read them! ( yet!
) That was a really fun lesson, though! I took some notes to help myself remember.I can’t wait until I can actually read and write Korean!

Hi,
I downloaded the lesson notes, but when I open the pdf there isn’t any writing. It’s just scrambled boxes. The lesson notes “lite” downloaded and displays perfectly fine. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!
Thursday at 4:34 am
This is my first time using the site. It looks really good. However, the Lesson Notes and Lesson Notes Lite look like the same information. Lite is just using a smaller font. Am I missing something?
Saturday at 6:08 am
I don’t understand the “Vocabulary Sample Sentences.” If one is new to Korean, there is no indication as to how these sentences would be pronounced. Beginners would not know the Hangul to pronounce these sentences correctly, so why are they there??? I find them very discouraging. The material in the lessons is managable, but the Vocabulary Sample Sentences are frustrating.
Wednesday at 10:51 pm

I’m a little bit confused on how to make “masisseo” into formal language. Can anyone expand on this?
Wednesday at 12:32 am
Wow thanks! this is really a good site to learn Korean. I’m getting tired of reading subtitles over and over again…so I’m planning to learn the language itself!
Is there a lesson here which could help me read Hangul faster? I know how to read a little bit but I’m a little slow.
Monday at 5:18 am
Hello everyone I am new here! Love the site and I instantly became a subscribed member! Love this lesson and that’s some funny crunchy bulgogi in the mp3
Sunday at 11:17 pm
where do i get to listen all the newbie podcasts/audio lessons?
Tuesday at 9:01 am
I downloaded the first lesson’s pdf file, and there are some words there that don’t look like Korean to me. On my screen, it definitely is in another language–I think Japanese. I tried to copy and paste it here, but it is pasting differently (in Korean). Does it have to do with my mac’s ability to read hangul? If it’s a pdf, it shouldn’t be a problem… Thanks.

How do u add more lessons to ur itouch? I only have one hahahaha
Friday at 5:02 pm
Hi, I’m a beginner with learning Korean. And even if it was the first lesson it really helped
I sorta have a problem with pronunciation, but just a tiny bit. It was fun learning the words. I started to watch a Korean show, and one of the members of the show said what was in this lesson (but he pronounced it differently), so it helps
Friday at 5:52 pm

Ericka, try this one: http//www.langintro.com/kintro/toc.htm
The lessons there on reading Hangul are very good. I’ve tried other sites, but this is by far the best. I could read Hangul within minutes of learning the first few lessons!
Good luck!
Friday at 12:36 am
the lesson notes do not work.. says it needs a support package. this makes doing a “trial” of this site sort of useless. Is there a way to fix this?
Friday at 12:37 am
it says “The Korean Language Support Package is required to display this page properly. Under the current configuration, this resource is not available.”
Friday at 9:47 am
Hello Amy~~~
Please send email to contactus@koreanclass101.com.
Briefly explain what kind of problem you are facing with…

Sunday at 4:40 am
In the vocabulary list with audio, it sounds to me that the initial ㅁin 맛있어요 and 맛있어 is sometimes pronounced with a b sound and sometimes with an m sound. Am I hearing this wrong?
Thursday at 11:54 pm
i have proplem in Lesson Notes
?????????????????????????????????????????
thx
Monday at 4:45 am
How do you say Chamroeun Kim in korean. I’m cambodian by the way^^
Monday at 9:55 am
Hello Song-Hee,
What does mean by “i have proplem in Lesson Notes”?
Can’t you open it?
If you have a problem, directly send email to contactus@koreanclass101.com.
Saying, “I have problem with ____ lesson!”, “The problem is ~~~~~”, “Please fix it for me?”
like that above…
Thanks for listening and cheers,
Hello Chamroeun Kim,
Your family name is very easy but your first name is… a little hard.
But, let me try…
“Chamroeun Kim” = 참(cham) + 로(ro) + 은(eun) + 킴(Kim)
= 참로은 킴 (Chamroeun Kim)
I think… to simply say your name, 참(cham) would be good (my opinion), since the meaning of 참(cham) in Korean is quite good. want to know about that!?
cheers,
Tim
Wednesday at 3:29 am
Hi Tim,
I’m wondering if there’s a better way to translate my name to Korean! I get “스테파니” when translating phonetically, but it doesn’t roll off the tongue very easily… My Chinese name is Yang En-Ting. Perhaps translating that into Korean will sound better?
Thanks!
Wednesday at 9:38 am
Hello Yang En-Ting.
I see… you are Chinese~~^^
“Ni hao~!”, “Wo jiao Tim!”, “Wo zhu-zai Ching-Dao city le”.
I think… as you said, it’s better to have Korean name based on your Chinese name. 양(Yang) 엔(En)- 팅(Ting) = 양엔팅 (Yang En-Ting).
If you like to have Korean name, I can suggest you some of female names.
cheers,
Tim
Wednesday at 12:51 pm
Thanks Tim, can you suggest some female names that would sound nice in Korean?
Wednesday at 1:30 pm
If it helps, the Chinese characters are 楊恩婷 =)
Wednesday at 5:08 pm
I think it’s better to keep your family name since we(Korean) have the same family name - 양楊.
and I know the meaning of 恩, “grace”, “blessing”, “kindness”, “goodness”. Let’s keep it as well. 은 恩.
(searching for the meaning of 婷 )…
I see~! Now I know its Korean as well. It’s 정 婷, “graceful”, “attractive”.
I like your name actually. 양(yang) 은(eun) 정(jeong) 楊恩婷.
So… now I can call you 은정恩婷 씨.
만나서 반가워요, 은정씨~! “Nice to meet you, 恩婷~!”
저는 영회 입니다. “I am Yeong-hoe”, call me “Tim” though.
중국 어디에 사세요 “which part of China are you living in?”
Wednesday at 7:39 pm
Yay! I’m American actually, American-born Taiwanese. =) I’m currently studying Chinese in Taiwan!
Thursday at 11:02 am
Hello 은정씨…
So… Stephanie = 은정. Okay, I got it!
I also have a few Taiwanese friends who I met in Canada.
Great to hear that you like your name both in Taiwanese and Korean.
cheers,
Tim

New to the site and having a bit of an issue getting to the lesson notes. For a few hours they worked but now when I click on them they just take me to the upgrade membership page. I thought I had seven days to test stuff out at a premium level, but for some reason that doesn’t seem to be the case?
Regardless, really enjoying the site. It has been very helpful!

Friday at 2:26 am
Is it rude to say 잘 먹겠습니다 before eating when the question of who is paying is still “up in the air”?
In other words, does saying 잘 먹겠습니다 imply that the other person is paying?
A: This food’s going to be great! Thanks for paying!
B: Paying?
Friday at 10:31 am
Hello, Lee Z,
I know what you are trying to say here but…
in my case, it doesn’t matter who pays for the meal…
You simply appreciate the moment that you eat a meal with a company.
Of course, when someone treats you dinner, when you say, “잘 먹겠습니다”, you are preferring to that individual but… still…
If someone says, “잘 먹겠습니다” in order to avoid paying for the meal, he/she is so mean… I have to say “he/she is so cunning”.
Between friends, who’s paying should not be an issue!
Sorry, I really don’t know what to say or how to say about this kinds of matters.
All I know is that I say, pray and thank for the meal that I am having…
That’s all~~
cheers,
Tim

I went to a Korean BBQ tonight, and when the waiter refilled my water glass I said 고맙습니다 to him and he responded 맛있어요? And I was totally tickled that I actually understood what he said!
And I gave him an enthusiastic 맛있어요!
Saturday at 2:20 am
Angela, that’s very, very cool! That gives you a little, extra kick to keep going doesn’t it?
Monday at 10:07 am
It’s so great! I’m happy that you have such a nice Korean BBQ Restaurant just next to you, in which you can practice what you learnt.
For next visit, they would be so happy if you say 맛있었어요(Masisseosseoyo/ It was delicious) on the way out.

Thursday at 9:45 pm
Hey all,
I absolutely love these lessons. The audio and pdf file makes it so easy to learn everything! I did have a quick question though (sorry if someone already asked… its early in the morning so I could have easily missed it haha). I’m able to read Hangul decently and when it got to “먹었습니다” I noticed that a g sound is pronounced when Seoul says it and the Romaji has a g as well. But the Hangul spelling doesn’t have a “g” at all. And there’s a b/p in the Hangul spelling but not a b or a p in the Romaji? Ahhh, this is all so confusing. Just when I feel like I have a grasp on things I get confused lol. Am I causing my own confusion?
Friday at 9:32 am
I’m Jaehwi Lee from Koreanclass101.com
If you break down the verb 먹었습니다, you can see Hangul characters like below.
ㅁ ㅓ ㄱ (ㅇ) ㅓ ㅆ ㅅ ㅡ ㅂ ㄴ ㅣ ㄷ ㅏ.
If you check the third one, there is the alphabet ㄱ, which sounds like G. If you write them down as it sounds, you can write them as 머겄습니다. That’s why Seol read it with G sound, as romannization did.
When ㄱ goes batchim (lower consonant), it sounds as t. But when the next consonant is ㅇ, which doesn’t have any sounds, ㄱ keeps its original sounds and replace the position of ㅇ. That’s why people do not read it as meot-eot-sseup-nida. : )
I hope this helps.
If you have questions about Korean, feel free to let us know.
Thank you!

When the guy says that after the meal it sounded like Jal Meoseumnida instead of Jal Meogeoseumnida. Did he say that wrong, or am I just hearing that wrong?

Thanks for the opportunity!
I’m really planning to go back to South Korea when I graduate college, or when I earn my Associate’s Degree.
I’m half Korean, half Filipino with some Chinese. My mom really wants me to learn the Korean language, so… this should help
Again, thanks! 감사함니다!

Hi, just began listening to the lessons today.
A little hard as I am still trying to learn to hear the sounds, like the one in this lesson that sounded like “choull”? Hopefully I will get the hang of it soon.
I have noticed that it sounds a little like japanese, and a korean friend of mine says that the two languages are fairly close to one another, is that correct?
Can’t wait to finally be able to tell people that I also speak a little korean!

I’m currently 13 and I think that this website is the most helpful and enjoyable. All the other Korean websites make me take almost a week to learn one word and most don’t have a guide along the way with you, so you have to guess how the word sounds. This website allowed me to learn many phrases over a period of one day, and I can even hold a whole conversation with my Korean friend now.
